Part of Jule’s job involves protecting Carter from himself as well as from other people, because he is a workaholic and sometimes she has to tell him to go the fuck to bed and remind him that he isn’t the only one affected by his shitty choices anymore.

If Jule had wanted to leave, go off, become someone else’s bodyguard, Carter wouldn’t have stopped her, because he’d already ruined enough of her life. In fact, he full well expected her to get as far away from him as possible. And he expected her to keep doing her less than safe job, because Jule didn’t seem like the type to retire because of one extremely rough day.

And this wouldn’t be that notable except that their connection works both ways. They don’t really discuss it, because Carter is the one who seems to be in danger most, but if she dies again? He doesn’t get to bring her back. They both die. And he knew that when he brought her back, but he didn’t hesitate.

The Dancer

Illya Zelenko

During high school, Jule danced competitively and she was good, very good. She met Illya during one of her competitions and he was a lot friendlier than most of the competitors. The two clicked and continued hanging out after the event, eventually deciding to try dancing together.

The partnership was perfect. It helped that they got along great off the dance floor, but both were skilled and together, their routines were beautiful. Their coaches saw them dance together and encouraged them to enter in couples competitions.

They quickly became the pair to beat and few people managed to do so. When she told him she wasn’t going to pursue dance professionally, he was crushed, doubting he’d ever find a partner as good as her. Despite his sadness, he only wished her the best and the two are still in touch. They aren’t as close as they once were, if only because Jule’s job is basically 24/7, 365, but they meet up every once in a while.

Illya continued dancing and has gone into it professionally, doing a few large shows over the past three years. Jule managed to catch one while it was in town and couldn’t have been prouder of him if she tried.

Jule is very lucky in that she doesn’t quite remember dying, but every once in a whole weird memories surface and she gets bits and pieces from that day and it’s honestly pretty horrifying. But as much as she resents Carter for that while debacle, she would never ever tell him how much it’s actually affected her.

Carter and Juliette are still roommates. She has an entire section of his penthouse apartment that’s just hers. Neither of them like the arrangement, but it’s made things easier, especially because Juliette is better than the other bodyguards.

Carter has other bodyguards-- after all, Juliette needs sleep and absolutely deserves a vacation now and then-- but Juliette is without a doubt the best at her job.
