Maddie gasps at the sudden sight of Aries. This feels...wrong. Isn't he supposed to be the one to take care of her? She doesn't think she's ever seen him even show a hint of weakness and now there's this. It's almost too much to take, but she knows she needs to focus now. "Okay, fuck, okay, can you make it to the bathroom?" she asks, reaching out to steady him.

"I'll do my best," he says, and if he were in better condition, he'd give her a silly little mock salute. But he's not, so he simply nods and lets her take some of his (surprisingly little) weight.

okay bed time! hoping to be around tomorrow but won't be here on wednesday. baby sister turns 30!!!! AND she just moved two hours away from me (which is a vast improvement over the many, many, many states away she's been). so. i took the day off for birthday celebrations.

"I'll take that into consideration." It wouldn't change a damn thing; he was who he was, but it felt like the least rude answer he could give. "If it were up to me, I wouldn't still be here. I'm not looking to piss anyone off to the point of being stuck here." Or worse. Well, maybe. Worse was subjective and this was a pretty bad place for a hunter to be.

She studied him for a moment, considering how to respond to him. Considering how much she trusted Ki-moon's judgment. Enough, she supposed. "You should talk to Maya. Or ask Ki-moon about her, at the very least, but I think talking to her would be more helpful. She's human, if that matters." She suspected it did, but that he still wouldn't want to meet her. "You can be plenty rude to her without getting cursed, but she might just punch you over it."

"Not when I'm trying to keep from being offensive." It was a very pointed response given how badly his hands itched for a weapon. "I'm unarmed." It wasn't the best answer, it didn't even really answer the question, but it was the most he was going to give.

"You should consider working on that." She doubted he would, but it was the appropriate response. "Unarmed does not mean unthreatening. There are mortals in this court. Humans. I, and many others, will protect them from any threats to their safety. Just so we're clear." Her own son wasn't human but he was painfully mortal, and though he'd live a longer life by being here, it would still be far too short for her taste. She had no interest in seeing it be any shorter.

Ryland merely shrugged at that. He didn't even really have friends among his family, so Ki-moon was, clearly, doing a little better than he was. He had Peri, and, on some level, maybe Ki-moon. It was not a comforting list. "Ah." That was not going to bode well for him if Saint had gone into detail about their meeting. Most people didn't respond well to finding out he had pulled a gun on a supposedly harmless kid. "Noted."

"Not very talkative, are we?" she observed. She tipped her head, watching him closely. "Do I need to be worried about the people who live here? Ki-moon can make his own choices, and if there are consequences of those choices for him, then so be it. But if there are consequences for others, that's a problem."

"He has shit taste in friends, then." Which he would happily tell Ki-moon to his face. "Which is why I was advised not to talk." Not that he was any better at controlling his face than he was his damned mouth. "Ryland, on the chance he's mentioned me to more than just the kid with no sense of self-preservation."

"He has very few friends outside of the family, actually." She wasn't sure if Naoise counted among them, or if things between them were more complicated than that. She didn't really want to know. She gave him a smile. "He hasn't. But Saint has." Saint had mentioned it to AJ, and her son had told her. "Ji-eun. His sister."

"Prior to this, I almost would have considered him a friend." Ryland was still fairly sleep deprived, barely managing more than 20 minutes at a time before startling awake. Being here didn't help. "I've been warned that I'm rude." He was, especially to Ki-moon, and he had no idea why he was still breathing from that alone.

"I imagine he would consider you a friend if he brought you here. That's a lot of trust." A lot of trust in someone she wasn't entirely sure was worth the risk, considering his general attitude. "That's a dangerous trait to have in most courts. A little less dangerous here, but not wise."

"You would have to ask Ki-moon the why. I was mostly advised not to talk to people if I could help it." He should have stayed in that damn room but it was making him feel too caged in.

"Ki-moon? Now that's very interesting." Since when was her brother doing fun things again? And why hadn't he mentioned it to anyone? "Any idea why he would advice you against talking to people? This court is known to be kind to humans."

okay done with session 1 of gf's newest dnd campaign! here for the rest of the night.

"I was too sleep-deprived to put up a fight." And too trusting of Ki-moon to be armed around him. A mistake he would not be repeating any time soon.

"I was hoping for a bit more detail than that. Like the who and the why in addition to the how." This wasn't a thing their court was supposed to do, and she couldn't imagine anyone disregarding that for no reason.

"Honestly, this is more of a technically kidnapped situation."

"Well that's... unusual. How did that happen?"
