He nodded when she confirmed what they had done - what she had accepted now.
"...nothing is given freely, your majesty." It was no slight against her. Just they way of things. "Truth be told, I have no home. And I would like to stay. What would you ask of me?" Nothing was given for free.
"You have a home here, should you choose it. I would ask the same from you as any of my subjects: a promise of loyalty. And, should you want it, I would offer you a position among my council. I have chosen a handful of fae for it already. You would be the only mortal among them. ...Kieran will be there as well, if that impacts your decision." Kieran wasn't happy about any of this, but that wasn't stopping her from making the offer.
Gareth doesn’t like visitors. He especially doesn’t like uninvited visitors. It doesn’t matter how many times his siblings tell him not everyone is a threat or to be more trusting in the powers that be. They can keep their positive beliefs and he’ll keep his skepticism and the court will be safe. He watches the man as he moves and debates making his presence known, but decides it’s for the best to do. “Everything alright?” he asks, even though he’s sure the answer is that it’s not. Mess and alright generally don’t go hand in hand.
ah fuck. he should have known there was someone or something nearby. he would have known if it was a cosmic horror, but the fae are something else entirely and his magic isn't tuned to them in the same way. is this stranger helpful? fifty-fifty shot. well... maybe more like sixty-forty, not in amir's favor. "it could be better, but i'm sure it will work out eventually. do you happen to know where the court of fortunes is from here?"

He stared at the flowers for a long moment, uncertainty warring within him. It would be considered rude to decline a gift. It would also be dangerous to accept an offer without being certain it was a gift. Curse his sister for her terrible decisions.
His gaze flickered from the flower to her face. "Is this a gift or a bargain?"

He's lost. In the worst possible place to be lost. Why Maya insisted on living here will never make any sense to him. Of course, deciding to go visit her without warning is on him. Booker and Jade are going to have endless questions if they track him and discover he's gone to the fae realm. Question he has negative interest in answering.
He sighs. "What a fucking mess."
She had been watching him quietly for several minutes, trying to gauge if he was a threat or genuinely just lost, before she approached. Her brother had no idea she was here and she knew she was too far from Cillian's to be safe, but she liked to wander. Besides, it wasn't like she didn't have an instant way home.
Silently, she held out her hand, vibrant blooms growing between her fingers before she offered them to him.

what a statement. the kind it takes him a moment of contemplation to consider. "i think we all know how to love. i think i know the cost of love more than the average person. but i think you know the cost of it, too." maybe they all do. he knows what al and lina have gone through. florian and mikha have been more reserved, but he suspects they've both lost their fair share. "sometimes love is a gamble."
"Yeah, no," Rochelle started, looking the other over. "I feel like that wouldn't end well for me."
A faint smile pulled at her lips. Human expressions could be so convenient. She tipped her head to the side, curiosity overwhelming her. "What makes you say that?"

whumpee being carried by team/caretaker and laid down somewhere soft. a bed… a couch… or even bringing the softness TO whumpee on the floor. a blanket, or a rolled up jacket for a pillow.
maybe they’re too sick to move. maybe they’re injured and broken. maybe they’re dying.
but give me the tenderness of “let us take you to rest someplace comfortable.”
"Mutts don't live as long as whatever you are, so why does it matter when it dies or how?" He had to know that, had to see that whatever weird attachment he had to the damn thing was short-lived at best.
"Oh, I'm aware. I'm ancient by mortal standards," he said with a smile that reached his eyes. "But he's my toy until his time is up and then I'm going to eat his soul. And that's all you need to know about that. If his time comes to an end too early, it's going to be your problem."
