Connecting your life to someone else’s is risky at best, but Carter could theoretically do it two more times. After that things get... unstable. And even that would be pushing it, because Carter and Jule’s life is one thing now. Which means if he brought someone else back, they would all three be connected. Any one of them dies and they all do. The same would go for a fourth person added into this mix.
That kind of magic would also be stretching his life thin and smaller things would most likely affect everyone in the group, like injuries, illness, and things along those lines.
Carter could, however, connect the life to someone else. At least, he could if he knew how. It might be something he learns eventually, but it’s certainly not a skill he has now.
Part of Jule’s job involves protecting Carter from himself as well as from other people, because he is a workaholic and sometimes she has to tell him to go the fuck to bed and remind him that he isn’t the only one affected by his shitty choices anymore.
If Jule had wanted to leave, go off, become someone else’s bodyguard, Carter wouldn’t have stopped her, because he’d already ruined enough of her life. In fact, he full well expected her to get as far away from him as possible. And he expected her to keep doing her less than safe job, because Jule didn’t seem like the type to retire because of one extremely rough day.
And this wouldn’t be that notable except that their connection works both ways. They don’t really discuss it, because Carter is the one who seems to be in danger most, but if she dies again? He doesn’t get to bring her back. They both die. And he knew that when he brought her back, but he didn’t hesitate.
Carter can’t cook for shit. Not because he’s bad at it, but because he literally doesn’t know how because he’s never had to cook for himself.

what would completely break your character?
jule. in a few different ways.
au where carter couldn’t bring her back? broken. he got someone killed and he can never undo that.
something glitches with his power and she dies again? broken. still his fault she got killed in the first place.
i could keep going with this but basically any scenario in which jule dies can probably be traced back to carter and he might be an asshole, but he’s not a murderer and he couldn’t live with himself knowing that her blood was on his hands.
au where carter and jule never met and she didn’t die? he becomes much harder to break here so that’s interesting. …i’m. not sure??? like… carter doesn’t have many friends and his relationship with his parents is… weird. not bad but. i think he’d be okay eventually if something happened to them. you could destroy his research but he could just. do it again? i guess his brain would be the most important thing to him here so fuck with that and it would probably break him. there we go. process of elimination.
Jule is very lucky in that she doesn’t quite remember dying, but every once in a whole weird memories surface and she gets bits and pieces from that day and it’s honestly pretty horrifying. But as much as she resents Carter for that while debacle, she would never ever tell him how much it’s actually affected her.
