a few years ago, i was moving apartments. only a few blocks away, so instead of paying for a moving truck i just took multiple trips with my dinky little hatchback sedan to move all of my shit from one apartment to another

one of the final trips involved moving my old cat julia from one apartment to the other

now, julia was overall an exceptionally docile cat. (i'd had her since she was a kitten and i was a kindergartener and i manhandled her like a plush toy so she got used to shit). but one thing about her was she fuckin HATED the car. hated the carrier too. so when you put the two together she'd start yowling like you were trying to skin her alive before, if the car ride was more than 20ish minutes, literally pissing herself from the stress.

so i decided. how about i just skip the carrier and put her on her leash instead. which did work out except.

halfway through the 5 minute drive, julia had decided she'd had enough. but instead of taking her displeasure out on me, she looked up at the sky peeking through the sunroof... and HISSED as if personally telling god to go fuck himself for putting her in that situation.

never have i related more to an animal.

the past few years i just had an elderly cat with weak muscles and probable arthritis who couldn't jump more than a couple feet. so it is so odd to now have a cat with a full range of motion that can just. jump onto high places.

i sometimes affectionately jokingly threaten/insult my cat and i just caught myself telling her "you better change your name to goncharov (1973) because you're gonna be non-existent by the time i'm done with you" (and then i petted her empty little orange head)

hello I am a random stranger who saw your lovely cat - I am absolutely fascinated by her little face speckles, I'm really curious if that's caused by something in her past/sun freckling or if she's like, perhaps some kind of very genetically odd tortoiseshell pattern with ULTRA ORANGE everywhere but those tiny spots on her face, very fun look either way!

good observation; she DOES indeed have freckles! it's a harmless skin condition known as lentigo simplex, which gives her black speckles on her skin (mostly her nose, mouth, and eyes, but a bit on her paws too).

it is known to only occur in cats with at least one copy of the orange gene (which also includes calicos and torties). so the fact that she has two copies of the ginger gene might make it twice as likely for her to have it? i'm not positive there tho
