Ms Hayter: Given that Alberta’s classrooms are more complex than ever and given that Katharina, a grade 10 student from Calgary-Edgemont, wrote, “My class size used to be 20 to 25 kids; now there are sometimes more than 40, and students like me cannot get the help we need,” when will the government stop denying what every parent, teacher, and student can see, that overcrowded, underresourced classrooms are failing Alberta students?

Ms Hayter: People are built different. We all have different abilities. I reflect about our caucus. We have some very avid marathon runners. I’ll have to admit I am not one of them, but we do have the members for Edmonton-Strathcona and Calgary-Buffalo, who are known as running buddies. Although the Member for Edmonton-Strathcona has a smaller build compared to her bigger male colleague, it’s also well known that, you know, when they do their half-marathons together, she’s the one crossing the finish line first.

Ms Hayter: Yes. Go, Member for Edmonton-Strathcona. So, you know, size and hormones aren’t an argument at all.

Ms Hayter: Owned a company is a little bit different than working as a front-line worker.

Ms Hayter: Given that I believe in in-person consultation, I am thrilled to be hosting a pension town hall with the MLA for Calgary-Foothills on January 23 at the Dalhousie Community Centre at 6:30 p.m. Given that the UCP MLAs from northwest Calgary are hiding from the in-person meetings, I would like to extend the invitation to the deputy minister, the Minister of Advanced Education, and the Minister of Education. Can any of those ministers confirm if they’ll attend and finally start listening to Albertans?

Mr. Horner: Mr. Speaker, we always listen to Albertans, and there was a little straw . . . [interjections] Oh, they’re a little chirpy; leaders’ row is a little chirpy.

Mr. Horner: Yeah. Well, before all of the potential leaders started chirping me off there, Mr. Speaker, what I was about to say was that there was a straw poll done in the spring. It was called the election.
