What the future holds.

The Walker Art Center asked artist and futurist Julian Bleecker to offer up his top 10 developments of 2012 and Kickstarter popped up at #1.

A year ago it may have been an overstatement to say there’s been a renaissance of earnest pleas for funding personal projects, with Kickstarter being the canonical broker of such things... I'd say this is a recognizable achievement for the capitalization of weird ideas.... It's not at all like shopping.

As I was making my way through the crowd at St Pancras station the other day, I saw (and heard) a man trying to get to the Eurostar check, desperately pulling his luggage with its broken wheel across the concourse, like a hyena dragging the carcass of a dead zebra. This brilliant sight reminded me of something Julian Bleecker said during a panel discussion with Kevin Slavin and Bruce Sterling, at the Thrilling Wonder Stories 3 event, held at the AA in late 2011.
