Even if they want to say Edelgard joined the slithers five minutes after Duscur. She and Jeritza still helped them hurt Dimitris family and friends. Well the ones who truly hurt Edelgard was the slithers. Lysithea makes that clear. Which is more consistent with the game then Edelgards baseless claim in her c+ support Ferdinands dad did it. Which has zero to do with the nabteans and the church.
I mean IMO it doesn’t really matter when Edelgard started working with TWSITD (though it’s heavily implied that it was before Duscur) because she still knows what happened, knows it was done for her benefit, and then chooses to reap the rewards of the slaughter of Dimitri’s family and the Duscur people instead of calling the alliance off.
Like, she’s still happily benefiting off of it even if she outwardly says she doesn’t approve of it, which at best makes her a massive hypocrite.
Speaking of that am cf comparison. In SSVW you beg Edelgard to stop and she tries to kill you every time.
Honestly Edelgard has the vibes of an ex girlfriend that’ll slash your tires and then cry about how you “made” her do it.
What castle did Rhea blow up in cf anyway? The monastery is fine.
? Presumably the one in Fhirdiad, right?
In chapter 18 of cf is there any mentions of citizens by anyone in Japanese? Because Ashe and Annette would have been super ooc if there was.
The conversation with Edelgard and Hubert at the start of the battle goes as follows:
エーデルガルト: レア! そしてセイロス教団よ! これ以上の争いは無意味でしょう!▼ 王なき国の都に籠もり、 貴方たちは何をしようと言うの!?▼ ……一度だけ、機会をあげるわ。▼ 武器を捨て、降伏しなさい! 貴方たちと違って、私は虐殺などしない!▼
Edelgard: Rhea! And you Members of the Church! You should see that further fighting is meaningless! ▼ What would you say is accomplished by shutting yourself inside the capital of a kingdom without a king!? ▼ ... I will give you just one chance. ▼ Cast aside your weapons and surrender! Unlike you, I have no desire to perform any sort of massacre! ▼
Hubert: ... There appears to be no response. Shall we proceed with the attack?
▼ いったい何を企んでいるの……▼ Edelgard: I will wait for a bit. There are numerous citizens in the capital. Unlike when I attacked Garreg Mach 5 years ago, the church is not evacuating the residents. Just what are they planning... ?
Which is followed by this conversation between Rhea and Catherine:
カトリーヌ: レア様。いや、セイロス様。 帝国軍は降伏を呼びかけてます。▼ 本当に無視していいんですか?▼ 例えば、アタシたちがフォドラを 出ていくとかで、解決を図れませんか?▼
Catherine: Lady Rhea. No, Lady Seiros. The Imperial Army is calling for us to surrender. ▼ Is it really wise to ignore them? ▼ For instance, couldn’t we attempt to negotiate our departure from Fodlán? ▼
Rhea: We must not surrender. There will be no defeat for us. ▼ To bring down the wicked ones, we must split apart even the heavens ▼ .
Catherine: .... Understood. I will obey your commands. ▼ No matter what happens, even if I have to give my life. ▼
Cyril: I will stand with you as well. Until the end... no matter how long.
Rhea: ... Well then, Catherine. Set fire to the capital. ▼ We shall burn the invading soldiers in the fires of purgatory. ▼
Catherine: ... huh!? But that’s-....! ▼
Rhea: Catherine. ▼
Catherine: I... understand... For the sake of victory, correct? ▼
▼ Rhea: No need for such foolish questions. The coming sacrifices have to be made. ▼ The apostate who stole everything from me... I will crush them myself. ▼
So it does sound like there are. The wording is pretty close to English here.
juliansolo replied to your post “Thinking about FE16 and the so-called golden endings where Hanneman...”
Nabteans are a genetically surperior species and so are those with crests. Fodlan is already run by people who “merit it” by having super powers.
I'm not really fond of the "genetically superior species" argument and I don't think having super powers counts as a "merit" to get to know who is going to rule or not, but in any case as long as nabateans exist crests exist too and in an utopia world who gets to rule wouldn't be based on your crest but on your abilities as a ruler like leadership, compassion, care for your people, etc.
But we know FE doesn’t like utopia endings, or at least we know it’s not going to last 10 years, so ultimately, people with super powers will still be highly regarded, then maybe elected king/rulers and everything will resume “they are not like us they have super powers, let’s kill them to get their powers, now i have those powers i’m going to rule” etc...
Like I deleted my Twitter finally. But like it still isn’t clicking Edelgard instigates every major conflict in the game? How do people not see that she helps escalate everything. Her own route is people defending there countries from her. AM is trying to save the rest of the Kingdom, SS the mountain country and VW the Alliance. The western church Rhea didn’t stop till they declared war and betrayed the Kingdom. The church was literally just sitting there in its own micro country.
Because Edelgard has to be right and they don’t care what aspect of canon they have to twist to make it so. The stans don’t exist in the same reality as us, just let them go.
Not only does the crest system not actually matter to the empire. It abandoned Mercedes who had a crest. An hasn’t had a church in over 100 years. The empires world building is very awful. Edelgard wasn’t even anywhere near in line for the throne? When most of her siblings didn’t have crests.
I don’t know about the line of succession, but funny to note how the book about imperial lines in the library notes how the Hresvelg line is the ruling one because it can claim descent from wilhelm and seiros (i don’t think it’s biologically accurate, maybe it was a way to explain the crests) meaning that some other peons can only descend from wilhelm but can’t be tied to seiros, so they have no claims on the imperial line? Like they were children Wilhelm had before receiving Rhea’s blood, so they will never be able to manifest a crest? (maybe there are bajillions of lesser Hresvelg branches still around?)
If you come from the main branch and you don’t have a crest, what is going to happen to you? You’ll get to rule over a minor castle/domain in the Hresvelg region? Or even if you had a crest but you’re not the imperial heir, what are you going to become?
I’ve seen a regular bad take recently about the issue (well roundly about)
Crest society didn’t brought the various Agarthan science projects or the process of Lysithea’ing randoms. If it is possible to give crests to randoms, then Hanneman becomes pointless.
As you pointed out, Mercedes was kicked away even if she had a crest, just like her mom, and Constance with her crest of “macuil” was sent to the abyss... Lysithea had an existing crest, the Ordelias are a crested family, but it didn’t protect them at all.
The so-called crest system doesn’t protect you from being shipped to the abyss or prevent you from running away from you country or protect you from being a nobody when your husband kicks the bucket... And it doesn’t protect you at all from being “punished” by a foreign country, or whatever happened with the Ordelia family in the Alliance, receiving flak and mole people from the Empire!
Maybe it used to be a thing, even if Vestra, Bergliez, Ochs’n’co being important nobles suggest it wasn’t, or became a thing but then stopped, idk.
I really want to have some world-building about the Empire, but as you pointed out, canon gives us something awful. Which is a shame.
