Can I talk about the runaway that Jameson befriends, who he calls Juliet (and who ends up going by that name afterward)?
You can see her here, here, and here
Juliet is a determined survivor, just like Jameson. She does whatever it takes, no matter what, to keep her hard-earned freedom. She's someone who ran hard and ran far to get where she is. She's kept the habits that served her in captivity - shifting her appearance to suit what others expect, purposefully choosing to fit certain stereotypes so that no one looks any deeper than their assumptions about her. No one sees her, just the surface shimmer in the water. No one looks beneath the pretty ripples.
With two exceptions, eventually three.
She befriends Jameson when he wants her away from a regular client she didn't realize was intending to turn violent, but Jameson did. They watch out for each other, and he befriends her without expecting anything more, which has been a distinct rarity for her. They help each other with the lives they are trying to build, living as fugitives in the margins of a nation hostile to their freedom.
And when she runs, she comes to warn Jameson first. She trusts a long time client with the truth of her personality BECAUSE of Jameson, though she doesn't tell Jameson that. She learned from him on how to read people, trusts this guy to get her as far as he says he will, and is proven right.
The client driving her to Idaho safely to help her escape WRU genuinely likes her, she can tell. Not for what she does, but for who she is. He offers her a place to stay, but that smacks too much of circumscribed freedom, so she chooses to make the run for Hope, and Canada.
And when the van taking her to Hope crashes, pursued by WRU, get survival instincts keep her alive until help arrives. She is the sole known survivor of that pursuit - everyone else dead or recaptured. She manages not only to fool the handlers into believing she is dead but also to send a distress call and stave off hypothermia and stay close enough to be found.
Juliet is a favorite and I've only written her three times. I have at least one more piece planned for her involving a snowstorm in Hope and her bonding with Esteban. I wrote nearly all of it and Tumblr glitched and I lost it, so I still have to rewrite it, but the story is there.
Juliet is a survivor, like Jameson, but she takes a very different direction in how she survived, too.
