“well that makes exactly one of us,” sam states as he steps up behind the lady, her head fading the opposite direction, obviously paying her fears more attention than the beam of light he carries in the palm of his hand, the flashlight pinned studiously to the floor. now that he’s managed to brighten up at least three other rooms, his hands have stopped their shaking and all hauntings of his mother’s howling have distanced themselves from his consciousness, unwrapped their tendril fingers from his ankles, released his lungs to let him breathe. at least for one night more.
“i wonder what that must be like,” he muses cryptically, playfully, stepping around her towards the showy candelabra in the window, meant usually for only decoration, but well. desperate times and all that. “to always live one’s life in the daytime. must be lovely. us darker creatures would probably find that to be quite…” he glances back at her, smiling momentarily, teasingly, “tedious.”
