A year ago today we lost a soldier. A Linkin Park soldier. He inspired many and helped many through music, while he was dealing with his own demons. Chester was and still is my hero. Legends never die March 20 1976-July 20th 2017

On July 20th 2017 Chester Bennington was pronounced dead after he died by suicide. I truly adore Chester, and Linkin Park has made me who I am today.

I wish you were still here. I can't believe it has been almost 5 months. July 20th... It feels like it was just announced... I can't believe this celebration of life concert has already come and gone so quickly. October 27th... It still hurts. Life goes by way too quickly, and, I just can't fathom your presence being gone from this plain of existence. I can only imagine the pain friends and family are feeling during this time, but you were a friend to me, so... I have a good idea of that pain. I have been practicing my vocals to be on par with yours, but there will never be another like you. I have to listen to 'Robot Boy' almost every single day to remind myself that life is fucking hard, but I have to keep going. The pain I feel. The struggles I face. The past I possess. I try so hard to fight the urge to end that pain and suffering because there is beauty in this world and life. My brain, like yours, is a "bad neighborhood". I either have to keep myself busy or sleep to ignore those toxic thoughts. It is so hard, and to know that your battle was lost, really makes me scared for the future. I will fight because all you wanted was to help others, express your pain, and live your life to the fullest. You were too young, but, I understand. THE UNDERAPPRECIATED CLASSIC Along with bands such as KORN, DEFTONES, STAIND, SLIPKNOT & LIMP BIZKIT, LINKIN PARK was unquestionably a key contributor to the wave of rock known as "nu metal", a subgenre that quickly dominated the edgier side of modern music in the late 90's & early 2000's, and with their arrival, they gave us "HYBRID THEORY", the album that would easily become their biggest musical statement. Not only was it an album that hugely successful thanks to selling at least 10 million copies in the US alone, it was also an album that defined a generation with an approach to heavy music that satisfied the masses & irritated the staunch critics & purists for a more traditional take on heavy metal. Unfortunately, what some rock die hards totally missed, took for granted or berated was this former six piece band's ability to blend metal, electronica, screamo, hip-hop & hard rock seamlessly with a pop sensibility that was pretty much unrivaled. LINKIN PARK also benefited from the one-two vocal punch of rapper/guitarist/keyboardist Mike Shinoda & the late great Chester Bennington whose chemistry turned songs like "Crawling", "One Step Closer" & "In The End" into infectious ear candy full of emotional angst that happened to also rule the pop charts Rarely has an album full of tormented confessionals had this level of genre bending radio appeal. "Hybrid Theory" was one of kind and for the singer who left us on July 20th 2017, it was his trur breakout moment that rescued millions of kids & young adults from self doubt, insecurities & despair. T R U L Y H E A R T B R E A K I N G Linkin Park is undoubtedly one of my favorite rock bands of the 2000's, so much so that I own at least 3 physical copies of their albums: Hybrid Theory, Meteora & Minutes To Midnight, so it's safe to say that I'm far from a casual fan of their work.... Which makes the loss of their phenomenal lead singer by suicide even more devastating. Chester Bennington seemingly had everything going for him: he had a wife, six children, A NO. 1 ALBUM THIS YEAR known as (ironically enough) "Into The Light" with his longtime band, an outstanding voice and a well earned reputation for being a rock star for mostly all the right reasons.... He also had life threatening demons.... The type of demons that also snuffed out the likes of Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, Phyllis Hyman, Amy Winehouse and other brilliant musicians way before their time and in certain cases (with Chester being the latest example) the public NEVER sees it coming. It's alarming that PEOPLE OF GREAT INFLUENCE who have rescued & helped so many with their abilities have no one to save them from themselves in certain cases.... We need to be more AWARE And we need PRAYER, CONCERN, DISCIPLESHIP & CHECK INS with the CREATIVES (and people in general) that we love. Let God use you.... Let's be more educated on mental health & more compassionate towards one another & LET'S SAVE MORE LIVES.
