she was named for the god of craft. jun was raised in her father's clan, though she took the name of her mother's clan for her surname. her parents died before she knew their faces and ashalle raised her with newly instated keeper marethari watching her closely. so, she was raised only knowing how to have merrill at her side and the bright, big eyes with curiosity jun never knew how to sate. with tamlen they were a complete set: merrill was a stubborn but gentle fist, tamlen was a rough guardian, and jun their big-mouthed rock. merrill and tamlen hardly ever reached agreements but always would they defer to jun's pointed (if arrogant) judgment.
ah tamlen tamlen the entire clan knew since their childhood jun and tamlen were two halves of a whole. some days they would wake up the whole clan arguing, always did they leave to the hunt bickering, and they've lost more than a few prey to crass remarks. but tamlen was the only one she'd let patch the cuts she couldn't reach, knew all the scars from front to back, the one she would follow anywhere, even into the cursed ruins. when she lost him to the taint she bitterly followed duncan to save herself from the taint just so merrill would only know so much loss.
anyways personality stuff!! she's pretty hot-headed and competitive and quick to point a sword but her loyalty is like steel and would shed her own blood before her letting friends bleed. she is a firm believer in helping those that can't help themselves. she's sarcastic and laughs everything off and is a little overly-critical and she is so comfortable around morrigan especially. when she talks to sten she doesn't ask more questions than she needs and he doesn't either, and talking to her feels like she's giving you a chance you didn't know you had. she's always ready to share a drink with oghren and listen to wynne and leliana's and zevran's stories (although she usually made fun of zevran's stupid crow adventures). she really takes to wynne's grandmotherliness (it reminds her of the keeper) and is so affectionate to her. also, shes not terribly great with keeping up her appearance (leliana had to help her bathe and groom constantly) but boy does she love her hair.
anyways her romance with alistair is stupidly cute. becoming a reluctant abrasive leader with only a pushover slacker who also deflects serious conversation with sarcasm is hardly a good combination for the last two wardens in ferelden but they made it work. i think when alistair would admit emotional truths to her about himself, being able to affirm them let jun accept ones of own. alistair offered her a genuine trust that she didn't know what to do with; that kind of faith was new to her, and she learned to be grateful for it. two stupid kids with no idea how to be leaders, hardly believing in themselves, each other nonetheless. she learned to be patient and fair with him, she allowed him to see cause beyond duty.they're dorky and rude and they laugh at all of each other's awful jokes and somehow along the way they learned to lead with just and grace. she found herself following him into battle and knew she would walk all of thedas and into the void to follow him, he is her sun.
he is good and merciful and she is wary and dutiful and i guess until alistair she didn't know what warmth and mercy really were ugh ugh ugh okkk i cant byee
as a fighter she fights more like a warrior than a rogue. she forgets the elvhen grace she was trained in and always lunges straight into the fray and leaves battle the bloodiest of the party. she always laughs at her mistakes in a way that makes others feel comfortable at laughing at their own flaws too and truthfully it's hard to dislike her, despite how downright rude she can be. she is brave and resolute and forgiving and i love her so much
after the blight she stays in denerim for a while as alistair settles in as king, then leaves with zevran to go rebuild the grey wardens. she writes to leliana and alistair often and visits him regularly once the grey wardens start to gain some footing. she drinks with oghren but never binges--it just doesnt feel the same. when the wardens begin to be whole again, she leaves to... find morrigan, despite her promise to leave morrigan after the archdemons defeat and the ritual, and later to find the cure.
