Coffee in Duilintinn
Fellow Watchers,
For several years now, King Sean's well-known love for coffee has boosted the drink’s popularity among the people of Duilintinn. However, since coffee beans are an import, their availability and price have ranged wildly.
In order to prevent merchants from hiking prices to profit upon the drink’s growing popularity, thus transforming coffee into a luxury good, King Sean has decided to personally ensure that his favorite drink is accessible to anyone.
As of a few days ago, taxes on coffee imports have been dramatically reduced, in order to encourage foreign merchants to sell more coffee beans in Duilintinn. In addition, the government is offering a higher price to merchants who decide to sell coffee to the government distribution centers instead of independently.
This means that it will be more profitable for merchants to sell the coffee they’ve acquired to the government, rather than making the effort to travel across the kingdom themselves to sell it at their own prices. The government will then use its existing distribution channels to ensure that coffee is available for sale at a similar price everywhere in Duilintinn.
As a result, while the drink itself still isn’t cheap, the exorbitant price increases associated with its rarity and transportation costs are no longer an issue. No matter where you live in Duilintinn, the price of coffee will now be consistent.
Despite the dip in tax revenue and the decrease in profits that the government can earn from the sale of coffee, the increased number of coffee imports and sales from merchants to the government will likely balance out the initial cost.
Moreover, there’s even a good chance that the government will make a profit. King Sean has pledged that a portion of these funds will be going towards social programs to provide free meals to people living in the slums outside of Cordoire and other impoverished areas both at home and, if needed, abroad.
We wish King Sean the best of luck in all of his endeavors and look forward to all of the ways he will continue to enrich our communities and do good in the world.
With Warm Regards,
