Today marks the 8th anniversary one of the worst days of my life. The first and biggest real piece of my identity was taken from me and for a very long time I felt lost and defeated having lost him. His loss took a very big toll for me. For a long time I couldn't listen to his music, watch any of his videos or look at any of his pictures. I took down and stored away every piece of memorabilia I had of him because it hurt too much to know that he was gone. It felt like a part of me died. His career inspired my individual artistry and creativity but his life inspired my fight and my spirit. To my family and friends, his name became synonymous with mine and on this day 8 years ago, I received an outpouring of support and condolences from people who I'd hadn't heard from for ages. People who knew me once upon a time grieved for me and wanted to know that they were thinking of me. They mourned for me over someone I had never really met or even really knew. My love for this man was what people remembered about me for the most for. It's because he was and still is the biggest part of who I am. Being his fan came with a lot of hardships, and a lot of fights but it also came with bonds I developed with people who I'll be friends with until the day I die. I think my favorite thing about my love for Michael Jackson is that my love didn't come from any influence of either of my parents. He was the first discovery I made for myself. In a way, discovered myself earlier in life than most people do. I'm forever grateful to lived in a time period where he existed.
