Reposted from @helmutnewtonfoundation One year ago, our former president and wife to Helmut Newton, June Newton aka Alice Springs, died peacefully at the age of 97 in Monte Carlo. She was an incredibly impressive women, as she worked as an actress, a model, a creative director, an editor as well as a photographer. Helmut and June Newton were married for more than 58 years, and known as one of the most iconic “power couple” in the international art & fashion scene. Their mutual project “Us And Them” has gained international fame, and is one of the most iconic series they created together. As the president of the Helmut Newton Foundation from 2004 on, June Newton became the driving force behind the development of the foundation’s exhibition concept in its first years. Established in cooperation with the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, it is a unique institution worldwide. Today we want to remember June Newton as an exceptional personality and inspiring person that she was. May she live on in our memories and in her photographs. This portrait is a vintage print from the late 1940s, taken by Helmut Newton. Next to other major photographic discoveries, this one will also be on display in the grand June Newton/Alice Springs retrospective which we will present on the occasion of her 100th birthday in summer 2023.
