The moon was nearly full tonight, its pale light casting long shadows over the quiet streets. You tried to steady your breathing, the cool air brushing your skin, but your heart felt heavier with each step. Sunghoon walked beside you, his hand intertwined with yours, a soft smile on his lips. He looked peaceful, unaware of the storm brewing inside you. Tonight was supposed to be perfect, a moment shared under the moonlight—just the two of you. But midnight was looming, and with it, the end of everything you’ve known.
You forced a smile, glancing at him as you strolled through the park, the soft rustle of leaves filling the silence. "You’ve always loved the night, haven’t you?" you said, trying to keep your voice light, pretending that this was just another date, not the last. But the truth clung to you like a weight you couldn’t shake. Tonight, you were going to end the curse. The knife hidden in your bag felt like it was burning a hole through you—Sunghoon couldn’t know. Not yet.
His friends… Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunoo, Niki, even Nako—they had all agreed to help you, understanding the burden you carried. It was their idea to lend their powers, to keep Sunghoon distracted. And to make sure you didn’t lose your nerve when the time came.
As you walked past the flower shop, memories of the past few weeks flooded back. The flower headband Sunghoon had made for you, the quiet moments when it felt like the world was just the two of you… Now, it felt cruel. You blinked back tears, fighting to keep yourself together.
“You okay?” Sunghoon asked, his voice breaking through your thoughts.
You nodded quickly, squeezing his hand. “Yeah, just… thinking about how much I’m going to miss this.” You laughed, but it was shaky, like glass on the edge of shattering.
He didn’t press further, which you were thankful for. You weren’t sure how long you could hold onto this mask, pretending that tonight wasn’t filled with dread. Each moment that passed was like a ticking clock, counting down to midnight.
You stopped at the fountain, one you had visited before during one of your dates. The water shimmered under the moonlight, reflecting your faces, and you couldn’t help but stare at his. How could he be so calm? How could you go through with this, knowing what it meant? You swallowed the lump in your throat, trying to push down the guilt and the overwhelming sadness threatening to consume you.
“You’ve been a little off tonight,” he finally said, turning to face you. “Something bothering you?”
You opened your mouth, but the words stuck. You wanted to tell him everything—that this was the last night, that you were going to free him from this curse, even if it meant losing him. But instead, you just shook your head, forcing another smile. “No, it’s nothing. I’m just... soaking it all in.”
The truth was, you wanted to hold onto this moment, to memorize every detail of his face, the sound of his voice, the way he looked at you with that gentle, unknowing expression. But the closer you got to midnight, the more your hands trembled, and the harder it became to keep up the façade.
By the time you reached the hill overlooking the city, you felt like you were on the verge of breaking. Sunghoon wrapped his arms around you from behind, his chin resting on your shoulder, as you both looked out at the glittering lights. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
You bit your lip, your voice barely a whisper. “Yeah… it really is.”
In the distance, you saw a faint flash—Heeseung and Sunoo were in place. They were signaling that it was almost time. Your heart pounded in your chest, and you could feel the weight of the dual blade knife against your side.
Tears welled up in your eyes as memories of the last three weeks flashed through your mind—the joy, the laughter, the quiet moments where you thought you had forever. But forever wasn’t yours to have. Not unless you went through with this.
You gripped the handle of the knife, your hands shaking as you tried to gather the courage. Sunghoon’s soft breath against your neck was the only thing grounding you, but it also made this moment unbearable.
“I love you,” he whispered, and it was like a dagger to your heart.
You choked on a sob, the tears spilling over. “I love you too… so much.”
You turned to face Sunghoon, your trembling hand slipping from his gasp. The weight of the knife pressed against your side, a reminder of what you had to do, what you had agreed to. But the moment your eyes met his, the facade crumbled. Tears, hot and uncontrollable, spilled doen your cheedk before you could stop them. The pain you'd kept locked inside finally broke free, and for the first time tonight, you couldn't pretend.
Sunghoon's expression shifted from confusion to concern. He stepped closer, his voice gentle yet urgent. "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
You shook your head, biting your lip as you tried to hold back a sob. You couldn't answer him. Now now. You squeezed your eyes shut, forcing yourself to block out his voice, his face, the memories that threatened to drown you. Your hand moved to the dual-blade knife at your wrist, gripping it so tightly it hurt. The metal felt cold, so at odds with the fire in your chest. You had to do it. You had to end this for him. For both of you.
With trembling hands, you raised the knife, aiming blinding in his direction, your eyes shut to shield yourself from the reality of what you were about to do. You tried to thrust it forward, but before the blade could reach him, Sunghoon's cold, firm grip stopped you. His reflexes—vampire—fast—halted your movement in an instant.
His eyes were no longer the soft brown you'd grown so used to. There were blood red, glowing sith a mixture of confusion and fear. "What are you doing?" His voice was sharper now, demanding answers. His grip tightened around your wrist, his mind pushing against yours, trying to break down your defence. You could feel the pull of his power, seeping into your thoughts, trying to control you.
Before you could respond, Jungeon blurred into view, crashing into Sunghoon with blinding speed, breaking his hold on you. The force of the impact knocked Sunghoon back, and he stumbled, his red eyes flickering in disbelief.
"Stay out of this, Jungwon!" Sunghoon snarled, but Jungwon's speed made him an unstoppable force, darking between you and Sunghoon, not giving him a chance to focus on you.
Sunghoon's arage flared, but just as he started to reach out for you again, Ni-ki stepped in, the shadows around him twisting and writhimg like living creatures, swirling into a thick darkness that blocked Sunghoon's veil, but Ni-ki held it firm, his face set in grim determination.
Jay appeared next, his strength overwhelming as he grabbed Sumghoon, pinning him to the ground. "We don't want to hurt you, Sunghoon," Jay grunted, his muscles straining as Sunghoon thrashed against him. "But we can't let you stop this."
Heeseung's red eyes locked ont Sunghoon's, and though no words passed between them, you knew Heeseung was speaking to him telepathically, tryjng to calm him down, to explain why this had to happen. But the more Sungnoon struggled, the more desperate the situation became. His eyes flated again, wile, full of pain and betrayal. He was fighting to break gree, not understanding why his own friends were doing this.
Jake stood at your wide, his gaze fixed onto Sunghoon, but his power of fire remained dormant—he couldn't risk unleashing it here, not with the trees arounf you. Sunoo, who had been silent the entire timd, stood beside him, his eyes filled with sorror, knowing the future but unable to change it. The weight of what was about to happen rested on his shoulders as well.
The scene before you was unbearable. All of them—his brothers—fighting him, holding him down, their red eyes glowing like embers in the night, except for Jake and Sunoo, who could only watch. You could feel the weight of their voices pressing down on you, each one telling you yo do it. To stab his heart, to end it.
Your heart shattered into pieaces. This wasn't how it was supposed to ne. You were supposed to be together, to have more time. But there was no more time. His brothers were all holding onto him, their strength combined just to keep him from stopping you. Each of their faces etched with pain, with grief.
"He needs this," Jungwon urged through gritted teeth, still moving at impossible speed to keep Sunghoon disoriented. "You have to do it!"
Tears streamed down your facr as you stared at the scene—five of them fighting the one persom you loved more than anything in this world. And Sunghoon's red eyes... there were no longer filled with anger. Now, they were filled with heartbreak. He understood. He knew, but it was too late to change things.
"Please...," Sunghoon choked, his voice breaking as his struggles weakened. "Don't..."
Your hands shook uncontrollably as you raised the blade again, this time aiming for his heart. You cpuld barely see through the tears. "I'm sorry," you whispered, your voice trembling, knowing that once you did this, it would be over. For him. For you.
"He'll be free," Ni-ki's voice called out, though it sounded distant, lime it was coming from a million miles away.
But what did freedom matter if it meant losing him?
"Do it!" Jay shouted, his grip slipping as Sunghoon thrashed once more, his eyes desperate now, pleading with you.
As you raised the blade, trembling in your grip, you heard it—his voice, soft yet filled with agony. "I don't want to see you die first... please..."
His words cut deeper than any blade ever could. The breath hitched in your throat, and for a moment, time stopped. He knew. He knew everything—why you were doing this, why his friends were holding him down, why you had to stab hi.. the realization in his voice broke something inside you.
Tears continued to stream down your cheeks as you opened your eyes, meeting his gaxe, his red irises filled with sorrow. It was unbearable. You hated this. You hated that after all yhe plans, after knowing this momeny was coming, you were still hesitating. Why couldn't it be different? Why couldn't you and Sumghoon last longer? Why did it all have to come down to a curse from a past life, something neither of you could control?
He stood up, his movements slow and deliberate despite the forces trying to hold him back. His friends loomed at you, silently begging from you to finish it, but you couldn't. Not yet. Not when he was standing right in front of you, growing closer, his hand reaching out to brush your tear—streaked cheek. His touch was gentle, filled with all the love you had shared int eh short time you'd had together.
"I'm sorry," you whispered, your voice breaking, barely able yo get your words out. You hated yourself for saying it, for feeling it, for what you were about to do.
His eyes softedned, and you could see the acceptance in them. He knew what had to happen, just as much as you did. His lips parted as it to say something, but you couldn't bear to hear it. Before he could speak, you took a deep breath, closing your eyes to block out the sight of him, moving closer to his face within inches. "I love you," and you close the gap to kiss him, plunged the blade forward—into his heart and yours at the same time.
The sharp pain hit your like a wave, searing through your chest, but the emotional pain was far worst. Your body crumbled first, collapsing to the ground as your legs gave out beneath you. You lay there, gasping from breath, your vision blurred by the tears that wouldn't stop. Through the face, you saw him—Sunghoon—still standing, his face twisted in pain as he clutched his chest. Blood stained his clothes, but his eyes never left yours.
He staggered, trying to stay upright, but his strength was fading fazt. His knees buckled, and he fell to the ground beside you, hiz hand reaching out, desperate to touch you. "Yuki..." he called your name, but his voice was faint, strainged. Your heard it, though, as faint as it was.
With what little strength you had left, you turned your head, your eyes locking with his one last time. He was reaching fot you, his fingers inches away from yours, but you couldn't move. Everything felt distant, the world fading into a blur of cold and darkness.
His lips moved again, but you couldn't make out the words. Your vision was going black, your body numb, but you could still feel the unbearable weight of his gaze. You wanted to reach back, to touch him, to tell him that it would be okay, but your strength was gone.
The last thing you saw was his hand, trembling, trying to close the distance between you. His red eyes were filled with so much pain, so much regret, as he watched you slip away. And as your own eyes fluttered shut, you could still hear his voice, calling out your name one last time.
I wished Sunghoon and his friends would live whatever they want, no matter human or vampire.
Then, everything went silent.
"You didn't hear my love to you..."
"I love you too..."
I wished Yuki can stay with me forever.
You were gone. And so was he and his friends.
