oh boy okay well you asked for it

there's many interpretations of this song, but to me it's about bts and nothing can change my mind 🙂‍↔️ i'll post some of my reasoning (rational and unhinged both) under the cut so i don't force everyone on the dash to observe lol

okay so reasons i think it's about bts:

exhibit a: timing - the song was originally written by jk to be released as part of his first solo mixtape, but ended up being released as a group track in july 2020, around four months after they had officially announced the indefinite postponement of MOTS tour.

bangtan has mentioned before that MOTS tour was the last thing they planned to do before they enlisted, so it wouldn't be surprising to me if 1) the creative struggles they faced and wrote about in MOTS: 7, 2) the discussions they'd had ab disbandment in 2018, on top of 3) their impending enlistment and upcoming contract renewal, led to some strong emotions that he conveyed through your eyes tell

exhibit b: lyrics* idk what i can say here that conveys the meaning better than the lyrics themselves, so screenshots below

*keep in mind that bangtan has said that they know each other so well that they can tell what they're thinking just by looking each other in the eyes. btw.

things that come to mind looking at this verse: interlude: shadow, the concept of the shadow being darker the brighter the light gets, and the response to that of "even that darkness is beautiful because we face it together". "looking only directly at you so that you don't go away" ok like. hoseok being unable to leave bc of jk crying. that's all.

yoongi's verse like. we don't know what our future holds bc of enlistment and being mandated to be apart for at least over a year. but look far ahead into the future and i will still be looking for you because the place you gave me (bangtan) is still where i feel at home.

hobi's verse like. i can't interpret it bc i'll cry. but you'll understand as you read it i think.

jimin's line i'll. i'll actually sob

ok maybe the taejin verse is only ot7 related in my delusional brain. but if you're an ot7 jungkookist truther like me then you'll understand where my third eye is coming from 🧿

joon's verse like. the traumas of our past and the pressure of our future are all so overwhelming that i don't even know how much hope we'll need to push forward and ensure we can get through this together.

"someday the sadness will wind us together" maybe i'm thinking too much ab this but like. yeah their past traumas and the pressure of their future are deep and dark, but the burden lightens when it's shared. of course it ties them together

mmhmm... yeah. now thinking of zane lowe where hobi said that they didn't even need words or a conversation to decide they'd be coming back together post-enlistment. it was a foregone conclusion. all any of them needed was to meet eyes and they'd know they had the same shared intention.
