In an entry dated July 6, 1999, a younger me wrote: "So, here I am off the coast of Malaysia on the tropical island of Tioman. The journey was quite interesting. I will write again about the island itself when it's not so dark and when the bats aren't circling about (yes, bats…huge ones!)."
