In case anyone is wondering where Buddy is in these Junior Conductor shenanigans...
Buddy rapidly lost track of his childhood dreams.
Starting to go on longer migrations, meeting Cain Tyrannosaurus and foolishly meeting him in secret (getting completely used and abused by him), shifting from denial of his mental health problems to entering an emo phase, all while dealing with earliest of his first symptoms of his incoming first growth spurt. He simply has too much going on to care about being a junior conductor anymore... and it's something everyone has grieved but Buddy himself.
In a ways, Buddy casting aside the Junior Conductor hat was only a symbol of his loss of childhood innocence.
