I miss living on the coast so, so much.  And I miss the garden I once had.

I haven't seen anyone talking about it yet so I thought I'd drop a little note. Now thanks to the magic of Premium Bandai we can order accessory/jewelry cases that look like the famous coffins from SKU! I really want to know if it was Ikuni's idea or someone else's for that particular piece of merch.

Oh. Oh my God. How do I put this into words?

It’s on SyFy, and it’s definitely science fiction. But character-oriented in major ways. It starts with Johnny and Dutch, who are best friends and partners as Killjoys, who go out and serve Warrants for the RAC, bringing in the bad guys. And in that respect, it’s kind of a romp. Johnny’s absolutely snarky and irreverent and he’s just amazing (he’s also the nerd, but being the nerd doesn’t make him any less badass). And Dutch has this complicated backstory for how she was raised that only seems to get MORE complicated as time goes on. And best part? THEY ARE BEST FRIENDS. Not will they/won’t they... they are just perfectly incredibly awesometastic friends.

Then in the first season, it starts with they’ve got a warrant and well... it’s problematic. Because Johnny recognizes the guy because it just so happens to be his kinda long-lost brother D’avin. And shit gets complicated because D’avin, well, shit’s just weird around him. And the entire first season, while being a story of politics in the J, is also about the relationship between two brothers and how they deal with each other.

It’s on the third season now, and the universe keeps getting better. There are queer characters. There are queer characters who are just themselves who happen to be queer. There’s politics and character conflict and angst that RESOLVES in healthy ways. There are people who talk and fight shit out and deal with it. Stuff happens, and people move on, rather than tripping over secrecy tropes to draw out the angst into unhealthy things.

This shit is awesome. If you want some space adventure with kick ass people (honestly, try not to fall in love with Johnny and Dutch, I dare you), go watch it. It’s so SO worth it.

I would second the buy it and make a pattern of it option. It’s so hard to find something that’s a flattering cut.

That or I am thinking of overdyeing it, actually.

even beyond the no homo-ing in the localization and smith’s insistence on replacing all Chinese/Asian terms with Western ones (legit ew), it was just...spectacularly and bafflingly bad, even on basic shit like consistent spelling of character/place names and terminology. quality assurance was nonexistent, too -- in addition to the copious spelling/grammar issues (in a professionally published novel!! ffs), the paper and ink quality was shit and i distinctly remember almost all batches of the fourth book getting released with the whole second half of the book upside down AND with a plot-critical chapter missing due to misprints. 

if someone handed that in for a grade at university it’d come back torn to shreds, and i legit have no idea wtf happened. smith’s work on ff12′s localization was great...i guess squeenix was just more rigorous w.r.t. allowing their editors to beat him up with baseball bats.
