My love of junkin’ is alive and well in Sanna’s home. It’s a former village school and with a small amount of money for decor, it’s bursting with warm-hearted humor. Sanna even goes design shopping at a car scrap yard. 

Sanna and her son Miro moved in, and when inspiration strikes, the impulsive decorator begins to dismantle the kitchen cabinets even in the middle of the night. Notice they built a loft for guests above the high-ceilinged living room. Beneath it is Sanna’s office corner.

The coffee table is made of loose legs and plywood treated with sauna protection.

The stand they’re using for books was left in the house.  Sanna bought the propeller that belonged to a truck's radiator from the car scrap yard. She went there with friends specifically for "interior shopping.”

Sanna found the chairs in a friend’s barn and the table base & top from her workplace. The top was damaged, so she painted it black and sprayed the pattern through a lace cloth.

The lovely bed in Sanna’s room was bought at a second hand store. She tacked wallpaper up as high as she could reach, and it’s easy to change b/c it’s not pasted on.

Sanna put grandma’s baby dress, her own childhood shoes, and grandpa’s suspenders in a frame. The scale was bought at auction.

Of course she’s got a great old work bench as a vanity table.

Her son’s bed was bought online, and Sanna painted it gray. Friends know what Sanna and Miro like, so they’ll bring them things like a hubcaps.

It’s fun to make surprising stills both inside and out. Humor also blooms in the yard- lobelias thrive in an old suitcase.

Sanna picks flowers from her yard and roadside yards and arranges them in old bottles and vases.

Dawn is a girl after my own heart, b/c she loves to decorate with “junk.” She does it so skillfully, that her Instagram is a source of inspiration. For instance, look at this wall- it’s gorgeous. 

Junk is versatile- the decor can be any style you want it to be. The living room has a Southwestern BoHo look. And, these vignettes have an old farmhouse style.

The way everything is arranged is just amazing.

For a more formal look, place them against a bold colored, non-distressed wall. Doesn’t this old piano make a wonderful shelf?

Layering is also key. And, you don’t have to attach everything to the walls- those old doors look beautiful, simply propped against them.

Definitely the country gentleman’s look.

Cute kitchen area furnished by junkin’ - the cable spool table was free, the chairs may have been rescued on trash day too, along with everything else. Check out the bucket ceiling fixture.
