The Bot Family.

Sometimes I enjoy making little robot sculptures out of old electronic crap that I can't use anymore. Here's a few designs I made before deciding which one I should build. 

I ended up making a little group that I call The Bot Family. The biggest one is Darla (the Matriarch of the family). To her side is her partner F1F7 (gender unknown). 

And then, of course, their three beautiful children Hans, Ferdinand, and Beyonce. 

Don't tell the others, but Beyonce is my favorite.

How a robot is born.

A lot of times when you are designing complicated things, it helps to break the mechanics down into smaller parts. Even though I have no idea how the hell this robot would work, if I can pick it apart and pretend I know what each gear, button, and switch does, it makes for a more complete looking design. So instead of just slapping in a wire here, or a wheel there, try to think about the function of each part of your robot. It will make your design look more realistic and clean.

I did take a robotics class in college that helped me tremendously in understanding how basic mobility functions work. Our robot, of course, was not nearly this complicated. In fact, her only job was to fight other robots in the class. Her name was The Widow Maker, and if I recall correctly, she had 3 wheels and an arm she could use to slap other robots in their stupid robot faces. Although she has since been dismantled, she will always be my first robot love.

Robot MutherFuckerz

Did you know that recently the super computer known as Watson accidentally stumbled onto a fun little website called Urban Dictionary and learned so many new curse words that he had to have part of his brain removed? 

And this is why someday robots will kill all of us. Because they don't have the words to express their feelings! Just take a look at these assholes:

All of this murder and destruction probably could have been avoided if we just let them call someone a douchebag.

Kaboom.

Why is this robot so mad? Oh I don't know, probably because HE WAS PROGRAMED TO KILL ALL HUMANS. Also he had kind of a shit day yesterday and he really just need to let let it all out. I get that.

Muddy the Mudskipper

Here is a mudskipper character I created for a personal project about living on an island made of trash. It's a real place called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch! Look it up! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_Garbage_Patch)

The idea is that creatures adapt to life on the toxic island, mutating and eventually thriving in this new habitat. Hence this beautiful upright mudskipper was born. He kind of looks like my grandpa (don't tell my grandpa).
