I mean, I always intended to include dark beings in Litch Slush, albeit in a much less sinister capacity than their Termythian counterparts. In the world of Litch Slush, they're known as Umbrae.
Umbrae can be created from the shadow of an actual person, or just any shadows. Those created from someone are generally bound into the form of the person they're linked to, whereas the "free" ones are able to change their forms at will to whatever they like.
Similar to Elementals [Nereids, Dryads], Umbrae are technically genderless. Some have preferences in how they present themselves, some don't care. Those who aren't bound to someone can do as they please.
Anyways this is one if Azhrune's, uh, "coworkers." Prefers male forms for himself. His true name is like an echo in a dark room, an ominous shuffling around the corner, a profound and disquieting silence, the feeling of stepping out of the sun and into somewhere dark and cold.
The language of shadows is difficult even for the Arkhen, so people mostly just call him Shuss [like "shush"].
Reuploading this because I finally bothered to scan it, so better quality.
Werewoof! One of Rhiz and Wes’s coworkers. It’s a rottweiler lmao. At least, I hope they look like one. I’ll try and draw their human face later. And name them.
Still not 100% decided if it’s a dude or a chick.
Finished up that picture of Shuss. This is his preferred [“decent”] form. Like Norah, everything about the fully-formed parts of his look is intentional.
Like all Umbrae, Shuss tends towards mischeviousness. He likes to cause [ultimately harmless] trouble and minor strifes. Lives for it, really. I mentioned he’s one of Azhrune’s coworkers? He’s also an incubus. He lives off that as much as he does chaos, and he frequents the same JuxtaPosition that Azhrune does.
He does, surprisingly, have use for the money that comes with the meal. I initially thought he wouldn’t, but after mulling it over a bit, I feel like he’d probably want somewhere to keep a collection of seemingly random objects that catch his interest. Like a magpie drawn to shiny things, he sometimes comes across innocuous objects that fascinate him [a la The Little Mermaid, but less cute and naive]. He can’t take them into the shadows, so he needs a place to store them. Meaning he likely has at least a room rented somewhere to keep his shit.
Valysta, one of Rhiz's classmates from his Advanced Hex Application class. She was actually in one of the few pages I managed to draw.
A southern girl from the Arkhen side of the portal ["lots of dimensions have a south!"]. Often mistaken for Japanese because "You're a red oni, aren't you?" Her interests include baking, nail art, and EXTREME SPORTS. She loves shit like skydiving and rock-climbing. She lives in the AotD dorms when school's on, but lives with her parents in Arcanae the rest of the year. She actually wants to be a cop, and a large variety of Hexing courses are required before she can do that; hexes are more at home on a demon officer's hip than a firearm is.
While seemingly soft and feminine and full of southern courtesy and charm, she's actually pretty formidable physically. More than you'd think looking at her. She could absolutely take you down while still smiling and saying "Well bury your heart, gettin' in a lady's personal space like that is mighty rude."
So, about the spiky bits that Azhrune has on his elbows. Figured I'd clarify what they are--or rather, what they're made of, since I've had a couple of people mistake them for fur.
The technical term for them is olecranal barbs [from "olecranon," which is the pointy bit of the elbow]. They're actually cartilaginous structures. This means they've got some flexibility, say about as much as the lateral cartilage in your nose. Meaning they can be squished or folded a bit without too much discomfort, but they can also be broken, again similarly to the nose.
Some demons have them, some don't, but they're generally considered a desirable physical trait to demons. Remember what I said once upon a time about Juxcubae being considered attractive for whatever particular type of demon they are? Azhrune's spikes are pretty showy. He's got three at each elbow, which isn't too common, and they're pretty prominent. The largest one on each side juts out a good three inches past the end of the elbow and the shorter ones are half that, and demon dudes and ladies are like "daaaaayum" when they see that shit.
It's kind of a weird thing. They don't serve any real purpose or have any sort of function. They're just...there. But demons like 'em.
Also while I'm rambling about demon anatomy: The spade-like parts at the end of his tails are more like the cartilage at the top of the ear, or at least the sides are, as the central "stalk" does actually have bone in it [naturally]. And again, Azhrune is considered plenty attractive for having two [very long and slender] tails.
He's, uh. A pretty popular guy at work. Among many kinds of clients.
A well and recently-fed Incubae or Succubae [collectively "Iuxcubae" or "Juxcubae"**] isn't like a human who's just gorged themselves on a heavy meal and wants a nap, contrary to popular belief. Any physical exhaustion they may experience from sex is generally overridden by the surge of energy they get from feeding. Generally, the few hours following a feeding are the ones where they're at the peak of their strength.
In other words, don't think that the Incubus is gonna roll over and go to sleep when you're done, and you can just slip out silently without paying the guy. He WILL notice and you WILL NOT get away with it. Regardless of him being on the human side of the portal, demon law is sure as hell gonna apply and work in his favor considering the circumstances. You don't want to be hexed into dicklessness for a month with a persistent feeling of needing to pee really badly and being unable to, just because you don't want to pay for services rendered. That's theft, my dude.
Azhrune is generally a relaxed and friendly guy, but you don't fuck with someone's paycheck, y'know.
Mostly I just wanted to draw a scary-looking Azhrune.
**Incubus and Succubus mean "to lie atop" and "to lie beneath" respectively, so I came up with some bullshit Latin thing that means something like "to lie beside." I needed a neutral term.
Concept sketch of Azhrune, Rhiz and Wes’s clumsy incubus neighbor. Full name Azhrune Bezreth Lazrael.
If he looks familiar at all, well. That’s because he’s been...repurposed. Might add the second tail back in, not sure. Depends how much I hate myself.
