riddle with ptsd, aubrey returns home from war and meets a barista who could make the rain disappear with her smile. the barista, emily, is completely enthralled by the soldier before her and quickly asks her on a date. they go on a few dates and then officially start dating and it’s later that emily discovers just how bad aubrey’s ptsd is. aubrey has trouble sleeping, terrible nightmares, and often fears the world around her. it’s then that aubrey explains that emily’s the only reason she’s left her apartment since she’s gotten home. feeling terrible, emily takes aubrey’s hand and explains they don’t have to go anywhere aubrey doesn’t feel comfortable. offering a warm smile, aubrey just explains that emily makes her feel the safest she’s ever felt.
bonus: every time emily visits aubrey, she brings a bouquet of flowers and makes aubrey her famous hot cocoa when aubrey is unable to sleep. aubrey wears leather jackets all the time and emily help can’t help but steal them - aubrey thinks it’s the cutest thing ever. they both drive motorcycles and take road trips together.
