I’ve never really talked about Hws Belarus much but I fucking should. I want her to have friends so badly man, gimme the magic quartet pleaseeee.

I love whenever she has friends outside of her immediate bubble, if that makes sense. Like when she has made her own friends, instead of just having the same social circle as her siblings.

And the Magic Quartet is probably my favourite friendship group for her, because she’s not really the type to actively try and make friends.

But she’ll preemptively go to all of their meeting because they’ve accidentally summoned her brother so many times that it’s easier this way.

Romania would quickly dub her as their official fourth member once they find out about her affinity for magic- regardless of if she agrees or not. And he’d primarily be the one to actively seek her out in the beginning and convince her to help fix their latest disastrous spell.

However, England would also actively engage her in conversation by passionately asking her questions about tarot, ect. He also brings nice tea and good snacks to their meetings which is a bonus.

Norway would also have interesting discussions with her about magic, but in a slightly calmer manner than the other two. I feel like those two would have pretty relax conversations and comfortable silences.

And eventually she’d realise that she really doesn’t mind their dumb meetings and that maybe she actually enjoys the trios company.

Honestly, I really just want to read a fic where she makes her own friends and tries to figure all that out/learn to accept people into her life and have people that genuinely like her for her.

Sometimes, I feel like USUK and PrUK get portrayed too similarly. Their dynamics are totally different; Prussia and America really aren’t that similar and neither is their relationship with England in my opinion.

Like, for me, a big different between the two is that England does not have more self-restraint than Prussia. Yet in both relationships he’s often portrayed as the more ‘responsible’ and organised one? Sure, England has more self-restraint than America, but he wins by a slim margin.

For example, I think that if someone important were to offend them at an event, or something:

Gilbert would suck if up… if he had to. He’d be angry about it- and probably pick a fight with a stranger later on- but he’s not going to do anything that could ruin, whatever reason they need that person for.

Whereas, Arthur would bite his tongue in the moment, but he’ll be thinking of other plans where they won’t need the person. He’s going get his own back later in a more subtle way- where he’ll have some plausible deniability.

And Alfred… I feel like he’d react in the moment. (Tbf he wouldn’t react as extremely as Gilbert or Arthur would- aka throw a punch or insult/argue with them.) But he’d quickly shut that person down. Need them or not, he’s not going to let them get away with that.

So I’m curious about how other people view Hws England…

Honestly, I think he’s one of the most interesting characters and I love fics where he isn’t the main POV. He’s such a complicated character, so seeing him from another characters POV is so interesting to me.

And he’s such a good character to explore that misunderstanding trope because imo, he rarely tells the full truth and how most other characters perceive him, would be so different from how he actually is.

Imo, he’s an incredibly caring person but comes across as selfish because he hides that side of him.

Sure, he’ll complain about Alfred calling him at 3am because he’s been watching paranormal videos all night and is convinced his house is haunted. But he’ll still stay on the phone with him until he calms down or falls asleep.

His brother needs someone to pick him up from the bar? Arthur will call him every insult he knows but he’s still getting his car keys to go get him up.

Like all that’s pretty much shown in canon when he refuses to give Francis hotel recommendations? I can’t remember exactly what it was, but he gives it regardless of what he said. And he’s someone who’ll take himself out of his comfort zone to make sure his friends are alright yknow??

I could talk about him for ages… There’s just so much you can talk about, like how he’s still pretty hard to get along with and makes an effort to stop people from getting to know him…

Did I ever write up that headcanon about his old attitudes to the other nations? I don’t think I did…

I am incredibly attached to fantasy/magic/supernatural AU’s tbh. It’s been so long since I’ve read a good supernatural-y fic and I miss it.

Vampire England is a classic choice and I love it tbh, it fits him so wellll. Though I also love him having magic (and unless it’s a world where magic is apart of a vampire powers, then I don’t really think they should have it… lol I think about this too much- I like the idea of him being a mage or something before he got turned and he’s still upset about it.)

Prussia’s such a mixed bag though. I’ve read fics were he’s a vampire, werewolf, zombie ect, and honestly they all work for him lowkey. (I kinda fuck with him being some kind of monster hunter though, or he was one before he was turned into something else. And I like the idea of him being a very bloodthirsty hunter but finding baby werewolf Germany and doing a 180. I also thjnk that he’d especially hate being a vampire though, I don’t think he’d fuck with being unable to go outside because the sun is out- the sun can’t tell him what to do.)

And America is a werewolf. I don’t make the rules, it’s great for him. Though I genuinely would not turn down any portrayal tbh. (I remember reading one multichapter fic where he was a vampire which I think was interesting? Though I also remember the more I read it, the more insane the plot got lmao. I can’t remember how much I enjoyed it by the end, but I remember it so 🤷‍♀️ I’ve read a fair chunk of vampire America usuk fics to be honest. Idk if I can remember any specific werewolf ones, I remember a one shot but I think that’s it… werewolf fics tend to just be smut if I’m remembering right- but it’s been a while man idk. I also like him having magic lowkey, but less in the controlled, knows magic theories type way and more in the he’s got a natural talent for it. Man that fic where Alfred became Arthur’s apprentice was on to something- I feel like there was more than one but I might be lying.)

Okay but Scotland and England excelling at maths / maths based stuff and Humanities based stuff respectively.

Like England is the one who could get someone out of jail just because he's phenomenonal at law, he conviction and self assured nature when it comes to speaking gives him a foot up and he can make people believe anything - even if they're flimsy to him. Though it's the easier stuff that spins him for a loop - like he thinks too deeply about the easy stuff sometimes.

Scotland is the one who would be able to differentiate different mechanical parts, he'd be able to do long division easy but trips up on simple stuff too - like simple division / addition will sometimes just,,,, not make sense for a whole second before he realises what his thought process was.

They're good at both, but them embodying that STEM Vs Humanities thing is so funny to me. They come together to gang up on anyone more Business orientated tho -Diff Anon ✨

And I love Arthur being really persuasive. He definitely very good at navigating social situations and usually knows what people want to hear.

Though I feel like he’d actually be kinda good at the economics/business side of things, man can talk numbers and I feel like he’s very good at seeing a bigger picture.

That being said, I don’t think he has the same intuition for how specifically to make things? Like he knows to how organise a team and hire people who can make his idea a reality but I don’t know if he’d know how to go about making it himself.

Whereas I think Alistair has that kind of intuition? He’s not good at social politics or organisation but he’s generally good at coming up with solutions/figuring out how to make something.

I also feel like Alistair’s ideas/what he makes it’s more practical based. Like he’d make something that would make his daily life easier?? Idk how to explain that better.

Whereas Arthur’s ideas are more new? original? (man’s best friends with Alfred and Kiku- he has some creative ideas).

Hmm idea how to word that. Basically Alistair’s creative in how he makes something whereas I feel Arthur’s creative the idea.

Ahh sorry this went kind of off topicccc, I just like writing out half thought ideas lol. I did a headcanon a while ago about Francis and Arthur, kinda talking about their persuasion abilities that I was going to redo ages ago but never finished that I might look into againnn. Honestly idk what I’m talking about anymore lol

Hws Scotland is the king of silent gestures that he doesn’t acknowledge. I touched on it in part one of my ramblings tonight (and I think in an old post ages ago) but Alistair doesn’t know how to have/like having emotional conversations. He shows how he cares through gestures, like making you a cup of tea after a long day or going out and buying your favourite snacks because he noticed you ran out. And he doesn’t want or expect credit for it. He did it because he wanted to, don’t read into it. While he won’t ask whats bothering you, he’ll listen if you tell him.

I think hws England is similar (eventually I’ll coordinate my thoughts on exactly these two are really similar and make a proper post). It’s more obvious when Arthur cares though, while he has a good poker face when he tries, in everyday life his emotions are written all over his face. He’ll visibly worry when someone he cares about is sick or hurt and you can read the indecision on his face when he doesn’t know how to comfort someone. While I think Alistair is the type of guy that’d go deal however hurt the person he cares about, yet deny doing so. Arthur is more prone to getting stuck thinking about what’s the best thing to do/way to help. 

Who they care about might also play into how I view this. Like I see Scotland as being close with France and Francis is very good at reading people’s intentions and doesn’t necessarily need someone to verbally express their feelings (kinda feel like Francis is a quality time kinda guy). Whereas, while Arthur’s also close with Francis, he’s also close with America and I think that sometimes Alfred needs verbal confirmation of someones feelings- though I do think that most of the time Alfred can read Arthurs intentions in his actions because I stick by my old headcanon that they know each other really well. 

Basically, sidenote, Arthur gives me ‘do as I say not as I do’ energy. He’s the type of person that will say he’s not going to help you tidy up while picking the clothes off the floor. Whereas Alistair just kinda gives me the energy that he just downplays the nice things he does. Honestly idk, I’ll probably change my mind about all of this, not entirely sure of my thoughts on it. Let me know if yous have any opinions on it.

Random UK Brothers Headcanons:

The UK brothers are all toxically competitive with each other and especially with England.

All of their competitions end in some kind of argument and there’s always a lot of cheating accusations (and while there is usually cheating, it’s rarely who’s getting accused/what they’re getting accused of.)

Whenever Arthur’s winning, his brothers will work together to ensure he loses too- which unsurprisingly results in another argument.

Arthur’s the definition of a bad winner though. Whenever he wins a game it will usually result in a physical fight because his boasting is so intolerable.

Like they all boast when they win but I feel like Arthur just exudes that infuriating arrogance.

I also feel like Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are pretty good sports usually. And I imagine other nations being shocked at how toxically competitive they get when they’re all together.

Whereas I think most other nations either know or expect Arthur to be a bit of a bad sport lol.

You know, I really liked usuk fics when they’re lowkey just as bad as each other and since we’ve been talking tropes... Arthur being the early riser is a no from me, hear me out.

Arthur gets out of bed with just enough time to get ready and have a quick cup of tea before he’s out the door.

And Alfred does the exact same thing except instead of tea, it’s enough time to go get some McDonald’s breakfast meal or something lol

Though I would concede that Arthur’s probably less likely to show up to a meeting late (I don’t think he’s much less likely though because he’d 100% be in a foul mood if he had to skip his morning tea and he’d definitely make it everyone else’s problem.)

Whereas Alfred would probably still grab himself a breakfast to go and show up to the meeting with it. (Be that because he values breakfast over the meeting or because he overestimated how quickly he could get the food.)
