Hey so you know how time comes up all season. I’m insane so I just timed Carmen while he was doing his little test for the kitchen’s layout.
It was 5 seconds. 5.53 to be exact. (It says 7.03 on the timer in the show.)
This recurring theme of time, losing it, wasting it, however you want to view it, is one of my favorite things about the show given how grief and mental illness can warp perception of time. But here, I love it because - whether intentional or not - it really was five seconds but Carmen is so insistent on asking someone else to answer questions he should be able to on his own. Like, before even the friend who’s a girl versus a girlfriend debate, we have this other instance of Carmen not trusting himself, not listening to his own advice like he tells Claire he should have when he runs into her at the store.
Somehow an extra TWO (again with the doubles this season) seconds crept in there. Did we lose those two seconds because it’s Carmen’s point of view and he’s dealing with mismanaged grief and anxiety? Or was it really 5 seconds and he should’ve trusted himself and moved on instead of wasting time on something that was already accomplished?
