There were a few things that stood out while rereading Matilda as an adult, one being the ability of the characters to walk across their town in a timely fashion.

- The public library is a few minutes walk for Matilda - Miss Honey easily walks from her house to Matilda's house - Miss Honey’s house is within walking distance from the school
