Thoughts on episode 3? I felt like so much was going on. Everything feeding into Ann Walker’s insecurities. Feeling like she’s not enough to keep Anne’s attention (Anne being distracted by Mariana and future business ideas). Her trying so hard with her family knowing that her and Anne will never be fully accepted. Her initial request to Elizabeth being ignored, her then coming up with a way to possibly address this only to be turned down by Mr Washington. Her trying to do her best by Anne by letting her go and see Mariana and even saying to give Mariana her regards. Like damn. Ann is trying so hard in every aspect of her life and I’m so proud of her. I do love that she told Anne plainly how she felt ‘I worried that you were ignoring me’, their conversations now that they’re married just feel deeper.
And I hate but understand the drinking, it’s showing the toll that everything is taking on Ann which is important because she knew her life with Anne wouldn’t be easy, but the reality is just so much harder. But hopefully worth it for the moments of happiness she does get to feel. Shown when she thanks Ann for bringing her along ‘I do appreciate all that you do for me’.
This episode did feel like a set up. Setting up for Anne’s business endeavours, for future politics, more rumours about them, difficulty with changing Ann’s will, showing us that Anne needs to deal with Mariana before she can be fully present with Ann.
Oh man I never though I’d say it but bring on episode 4, let’s delve into Anne and Mariana even more. Let’s contrast the differences between Ann/Anne and Anne/Mariana. Let's see Anne let Mariana go. And when Anne comes home you know Ann will be so eager to greet her- she won’t make Anne wait not even for a second.
