Just got off the phone with my mom. Told her about the script I wrote for class this week. One I found interesting and difficult to write, but more so to share due to its subject matter. My suggested turning it in as a senior project proposal. However meaningful the ending, however truthful the moral, a traditional Catholic school such as mine would have a hard time accepting it as more than a student's class assignment. I could potentially even get in trouble just for writing it, despite my careful word choice. I doubt I will. That this script came from me probably surprises them more than anything. Guess surprising my audience has become habit for me.
#fall q 2k17#it's a writer's life for me#just JPC things#only at my school would you have the potential to get in trouble for writing a story about a transgender teen#it's literally a story that simply says 'respect all people no matter who they are'#there is nothing that goes against catholic teaching#I was very careful with my words and never once used a pronoun for the character#because I'm still not 100% sure where i stand on that part of the issue#but mainly also because i go to a traditional Catholic school#and so much as implying that I believe something that goes against catholic teaching could probably get me in trouble#a liiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttllllllllleeeeeeeeee bit ridiculous if you ask me#because in my opinion?#there's a way to include those characters without condoning their lifestyle#and because we're human?#those characters will exist#it's part of human nature to be wracked with faults#even if many people see it in a different light than we do#it's a very touchy subject#i almost didn't say anything about the content because of that#saying the wrong thing here could have people on me about that#there's just no good way to handle the subject from my position niwadays#I think it's an important story that should be told by a catholic filmmaker#I'm just not sure if this is the location it needs to happen#or even if it could happen at this location
