Sometimes people's surnames catch me wholly off-guard to the point my brain just fully stops. This elderly couple came in and wanted to renew their library cards, so I asked for said cards to scan them in first and verify their information. My computer screen lit up and—

Dyke.

Their married joint surname was Dyke.

I looked back at this +70-year old man and woman and for the longest 5 seconds of my life I could not think of ANYTHING to say that wouldn't get my clowning lesbian ass dragged off to HR immediately.
