The absolute genius of this line
First off, if you haven’t read Anxious People by Fredrik Backman, don’t read this. Everything, including the character names can be a spoiler, and it’s not the kind of book where you want anything spoiled. Also, it’s a really good book and I would give more reasons to read it than that, but spoilers.
Next, just...this line. It just lives in my mind at all times. it hasn’t left since I read it a month ago. I don’t have the exact right words to describe how amazing it is, and it took me a month to have any. (Other frustrated “how do I explain this?” noises)
“’Stockholm’ can also be a syndrome, of course.”
157 pages of buildup to a line (and preceding passage) so deeply, profoundly perfect that I cannot properly explain how it makes me feel. It’s so good that it was crushing.
How is it even possible to be surprised by a line that you half-expected (more like 1/8 but still) after the first hundred or so pages? I don’t know, but it is.
I just had to get this out of my head. Like I said, it’s been living there for a month at this point, and I needed to share it.
