he’s been there since early morning, but waits until they’re fully awake to actually give his gift— simple mind’s street fighting years album on vinyl, and a small keychain with three charms ( a game controller, a pixelated heart, and PLAYER 1 engraved on a plain silver piece ). flashes a smile and runs a hand through his hair, “happy birthday, man.” / justablip

     michael doesn’t say anything for a few minutes, carefully examining both items.

     the record itself is pretty standard ( original album art with a black disc ), but the band and album choice sets it apart. despite reaching mainstream success in britain, simple minds never really made it in the u.s.a., “street fighting years” in particular receiving hugely mixed reviews. people either loved or hated the stylistic departure from previous albums and the band was criticized for introducing more political themes into their lyrics. it’s his favorite simple minds album for exactly those reasons.

     in the way the keychain is similar to his hoodie. a way to display something he loves ( video games ) without being needlessly flashy. the controller and pixelated heart are designs michael’s seen before ( even considered getting a patch of the latter during sophomore year ), but PLAYER 1 on a silver piece like this is new to him. it’s maybe not unique, but special for sure.

     setting the gift on his beside table, he reaches to tug jeremy a little closer.❛ thanks. ❜ leans forward to softly press their lips together, small smile on his features when he pulls back. ❛ i love you. so, so much. ❜

     ❛ okay, dude. what d’you wanna do? ❜ they’ve been left to their own devices, respective best friends opting to spend the afternoon in michael’s basement instead. and while he was hoping to get a little one-on-one time with his other self ( non-self? it’s hard to say since they’re so different ), michael can’t say he’s disappointed. hanging out with this jeremy is bound to be an adventure. ❛ world’s our oyster. ❜
