Lyney wants to be as close to his loved one as possible. Perhaps it's a manifestation of his protectiveness, of his desire to keep the ones he loves safe from harm... or perhaps not. Maybe he just finds comfort in the contact. Regardless, he's the type to entangle his legs with yours and squeeze you close to him with his arms. He'll draw mindless shapes along your spine and on your skin, kneading it comfortingly to lull you into unconsciousness. It's possible to wiggle out of his embrace if, for any reason, you need to, but he'll most definitely wake up from the motion (he's quite accustomed to sleeping lightly, due to his affiliation with the Fatui) and quietly ask if you're okay or if you need something. He'll be waiting with his arms wide open for you when you return.
Freminet does not mind close physical contact with his loved one, but generally... simply sleeping facing one another, fingers intertwined and knees touching is enough for him. He may not fall asleep first. He'll likely be awake far longer than you will, watching you sleep with a tender gaze. He watches. Waits. Waits until he's sure nothing is going to happen to the two of you—only then does he fall asleep. Some mornings, you may wake up to him curled much closer to you than you remember him being before you fell asleep. He presses close in his unconsciousness, and he may stir a bit if you draw him closer, but he'll be quick to fall fully back asleep. Some mornings, he might be gone already.
Lynette, like her brothers, finds herself quite fond of being close to those she loves. She'll press close to you, a gentle rumble rising in her chest as she absorbs your warmth. Chances are, she'll either end up with her face pressed against your collar, or you'll end up with yours pressed against hers and with her arms wrapped securely around your upper body. She is much more like her twin in that she wants you as close as possible—she finds comfort in knowing that both of you are safe in one another's arms. However, she also is less likely to fall asleep first most nights. Her vigilance is admirable in many respects. She will not fall asleep until she knows for a fact that the two of you are secure, and she is quick to awaken if she senses something is wrong.
How Venti sleeps with his loved one is quite dependent on who is feeling what, and can generally vary. Some nights, he wants to be held by you, head pressed against your chest and arms and legs wrapped around your torso like a koala. A clingy koala, that is. Often times, he'll still be there when you awaken, kept asleep by the steady sound of your heartbeat. Other nights, he is more than happy to have your curled up in his lap against his chest as he hums a gentle tune, letting the calming melodies lull you to sleep. It is mornings after these sorts of nights where you might wake up alone with only a residual lullaby dancing at the back of your mind. He is fickle in that way, but you're sure to see him again in the coming days. He never allows you to miss him for too long.
Scaramouche isn't much of a cuddler. He may scoff at the idea, but if his loved one specifically requests it from him... he'll grumble and mutter about how needy you are, but he'll oblige you nonetheless. As a Fatui Harbinger, he is extremely busy—between paperwork and missions in other nations, he has very little time to indulge your whims, but he'll entertain you at least for a little while, and that is a privilege most others could not even dream of having. He'll lay on his back and let you curl up against his side. He might wrap an arm around you, muttering something that almost sounds… vaguely fond, beneath the layers of annoyance, though you cannot make out what he says. The vast majority of the time, he will not be there when you wake up. He might be in another nation entirely by the time you do, but… it's the sentiment—the willingness to let you have your way—that matters.
Kaveh is nothing if not touchy and affectionate, so cuddling is always on the table... if his loved one can coax him away from his work, that is. He's reluctant to stop working—he just has so much to do, he can hardly take a break now!—but once he does, he is all over you. Leg thrown over your hip, chest pressed firmly against yours, face tucked into the crook of your neck or vice versa... he is a cuddler, that's for sure. Kaveh is also fond of drawing little shapes onto your skin as he talks to you in a hushed and thoughtfully quiet tone. Most nights, the two of you will end up talking one another to sleep, murmuring about the day's events, the latest gossip he caught when he was at the tavern, his or your latest projects… anything is on the table. That is, until his murmurs trail off into little more than soft breaths as he falls unconscious against you.
Qiqi isn't particularly familiar with the concept. She thinks she can vaguely recall being held like that by someone a long, long time ago, but the memory is wispy and distant at best and she's honestly unsure if it actually happened or if she imagined it. This isn't to say that Baizhu has never held her—he most certainly has, and she found herself liking the closeness, it's just... she's unused to it. But if you so wish to sleep with her in your arms, she doesn't mind; she will find herself comforted by your warmth as it staves off the inherent coldness she radiates, both as a consequence of her vision and because of her bodily condition. She will eventually drift off herself after quietly watching you for a short while, little hands clasping your shirt, clinging to your body much like the child she is and the child she has not really been allowed to be.
Tighnari is quite open to the idea, even moreso if the two of you happen to be out doing research and find that it's gotten far too late to make the trip back to Gandharva Ville. It's an effective way to keep warm and it sates some deep-rooted instinct within him to keep his loved ones close. He doesn't mind if you want to cling to his side and sleep there while he is keeping watch; the fluff of his tail will prevent you from getting too cold, so that is no concern of his, and he is more than capable enough of fending off any threats. But if it's a more normal night, he's more than happy to cuddle normally. Tighnari prefers to hold you, but he doesn't particularly mind being held either—feel free to let him know if you have a preference. He won't mind accomodating.
Xiao is a bit opposed to the idea at first, especially if his loved one is a visionless mortal who would easily be affected by his karmic debt. He does not wish to hurt you—that is, in fact, the last thing he'd ever want to do. He doesn't know what he would do with himself if he did. At first, he'll most likely just watch you sleep, ever-vigilant, ever-protective. Not a single thing would dare to touch you when he watches you so diligently. You'll sleep at peace, at the very least, knowing that he is watching over you. Then, he might stiffly sit at the edge of your bed… still watching, of course, but he approaches you with a slowly-growing understanding that he will not hurt you. It is unlikely that Xiao will ever let his guard down enough to hold you properly (or to let you hold him, for that matter). Nevertheless, some nights, you may wake up in the morning swearing you could've felt a dip in the bed that certainly didn't come from someone sitting on the end.
Nahida isn't really opposed at all! She finds it very sweet that humans enjoy one another's company so deeply that they'll hold one another in their sleep. Perhaps Nahida also needs that kind of comfort, even if she doesn't realize it at first. She hasn't ever really been held; she's spent all her years alone and isolated. At first, it might begin with your head in her lap until you drift off (a natural position for the ever-wise and guiding goddess, one she has taken on with many people before you in an attempt to comfort them), though eventually it will turn into you holding her until she does. It really doesn't even have to be at night for it to happen—if the two of you happen to be spending time together, she might find herself soothed by your presence, lulled into a peaceful sleep that she has not been able to experience for centuries.
For Collei, it depends both on how close her loved one is to her and how she is feeling that night. Please don't get her wrong! If she says no, it isn't because she loves or trusts you less than others. She just... finds prolonged contact like that a bit suffocating, a bit difficult to manage. You would surely never hurt her. She knows that. Still, some nights, the contact might be a little too much. If you're willing to compromise, she's more than happy to sleep next to you (similarly to how Freminet prefers to sleep with his loved one). Sometimes, though... sometimes she needs to be held. She likes to be held, takes comfort in being able to press herself into your torso with your arms around her drawing soft shapes on her back, when she wants it. Don't make assumptions, though, and give her the freedom to decide what she wants and when.
Furina is very touch starved—that much is a given. For five hundred years, she was completely and utterly alone. There was no support. There was no-one to whom she could tell her story, tell the truth to, but now that she has completed the role she had to play... she doesn't have to be alone, but it's also quite hard for her to fit in. Therefore, she cherishes all those who welcome her with open arms. She's a little bit hesitant at first in that she doesn't know where to put her hands or her legs or… herself as a whole. It's been so long since anyone has offered to hold her like this. She doesn't remember how to be held. However, once she figures it out, she is quick to melt into your side, as if it were the most natural thing in the world to her. She'll relax into you, calmed by your warmth and your love for her in a way she has not been soothed in a very long time.
Neuvillette is not especially familiar with the idea (though, that isn't to say he's never done it… the melusines can be quite clingy in that way with him). That said, he's very much open to it—there is a certain draconic possessiveness he has over his loved ones, so opportunities to be close to them are very gratifying to his inherent instincts. He's more partial to holding you than any other arrangement. He likes the feeling of having you secure in his hold. It isn't exactly uncommon for him to settle in for the night with a book, using one arm to keep a firm hold around your waist as you drift off to the calming rumble of his voice reading you to sleep, gently rubbing a hand over your back. Other nights, nights during which he's not particularly busy, he might simple settle on laying down with you, tucking your head under his chin and squeezing his arms around your waist, almost as if he fears you'll disappear if he lets you go.
Arlecchino, for all her methods and mannerisms, does care for her loved ones. It's an unconventional care, perhaps, but it's there—present and enduring, the very beating heart of why she operates the way she does. For someone close enough to her, she may grant such an indulgence, though only with the disclaimer that she is extremely unlimely to stay the night. She is busy. She is needed elsewhere, always, but for you… she can spare a moment or two. She'll let you wrap yourself up in her arms, head against her chest, the hum rumbling in her ribs and the warmth pulsing off of her skin in waves soothing whatever anxieties or tensions that carried over into the night from the day. Her nails drag up and down your spine in a strangely comforting rhythm. She'll switch to scratching your scalp after a while (something many of her children seem to take comfort in, she has noted)—gently, as to not draw blood. It's only once you're thoroughly asleep that she'll slip away, skillfully silently, to attend to whatever duties she was neglecting in favor of you.
Il Dottore is a busy man. He spends much time in his lab for a reason, seeking progress and results. That said, he has little time to spare for such indulgences. He hardly stays still long enough for you to get comfortable anyway, abandoning his current subject of study and moving on to something else that catches his interest the second he gets bored or is dissatisfied with the results he is seeing, so catching him at the right time is pivotal. If everything aligns perfectly in your favor, he'll allow it. Though, with consideration to the fact that he spends so much time moving around, you may have to settle for resting near him in a little area that seems… uniquely designated for you, a space within his own that seems so natural, as if it were always meant to be there. He'll continue to work, maybe narrate his work and his related thoughts to you until you nod off to the sound of his voice. (And perhaps, though you may be unaware, he'll take small breaks to simply watch you, maybe even to sit at your side and place a hand on your upper arm until he deems it necessary to move again.)

Characters: Scaramouche, Wanderer, Arlecchino, Furina, Shenhe, and Lyney
Scaramouche - No
Thinks it's stupid, can't do it, and won't do it. He gains nothing from such a challenge, so there simply is no reason to indulge it. However, it's possible to get him to comply if you try and mess with his pride/ego. He'll play for a while, but he won't last very long.
Wanderer - Yes
Still thinks it's stupid, CAN do it, and WILL do it. Wanderer at this point is better off than whatever hot mess he was before, so I think even if he's not exactly willing, he'll indulge it. If only just to make you regret it.
Arlecchino - Yes
She makes it look so easy. You almost start to regret ever challenging her. She'll tease you relentlessly throughout the month, all while remaining composed herself. On the first of December, she celebrates her victory. Don't expect her to go easy. She's endured a lot already. It's the least you can do, right?
Furina - No
Absolutely not. Loses before she even realizes what time of year it is. But can you blame her? She's a yearner at heart. She can't help that you're constantly on her mind!
Shenhe - Yes
Has no idea what it is, and has never heard of it before. I imagine she's content with the simple things in your relationship and doesn't necessarily need to engage in that sort of intimacy often. Despite that, she still has urges. It isn't until a week or so that she attempts to initiate, and you decide to tell her about the challenge. She doesn't get it, but will play along if you wish her to. The only way I can see her losing is if you decide to give up yourself.
Lyney - No
Is excited to try and makes a good effort! Ultimately, though, he's not making it. I feel like he'd get halfway through the month before he finally gives up. He's whiny and desperate when he approaches you, shame written all over his face. You don't miss the way his face seems to beam when you decide to indulge him. He's thankful, really, and plans to show you his gratitude whenever you're ready to give up.
⠀꒲ ` notes . . . why does every hoyo game suck nowadays and why am i subjected to this hyperfixation (says while choking myself) anyways do we prefer the long or short drabbles chat i need some data 🫵
you (nature, technically) had the perfect mood set up. a night lit only by the stars and the faint yellow wash of candles, a gentle pattering of rain on the blurry windows, and an overall gloom shredding over teyvat. summer storms were honestly a rather fond delight with the intense sunshine parading through the warmer weeks.
your lover waits for you in bed, probably handling important documents or reading over a book of some sort. you, on the more devilish hand, were feeling mischievous. because why would you waste an opportunity to turn a calm evening meant for a cuddle under sheets, into a dramatic scandal?
quietly turning the knob to your bedroom door, heart subtly rabbiting against your ribs, you take a big gulp of air as you face your lover. [char] smiles, but you hollow the giddiness in your expression with a firm glance away.
faking a tremble in your hand, you place it over your heart, voice forcibly more gruff than usual. “[char]…i want to come clean,” that alone catches their breath, “i am no longer in love with you, i am seeming someone else.”
R. DILUC — ⊹ . ݁♡ ˖
HOW DOES HE REACT ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!
ironically, the air chills. your hair stands on end at not the sudden quiet that emerges, but the way diluc refuses to look at you. you are his light. his eyes search for yours restlessly in every crowded room. the thought of granting you such a vulnerable privilege makes his stomach churn.
“alright, i understand.” diluc closes the book in his lap. swinging his legs over the side of the bed, his posture stiff and unsure of whether to stand and face you, or to fall back and cross his arms. “i am…disheartened to hear that. though, you should have mentioned this before you begun to search for another, your haste to leave is…noted.”
letting out a rough huff, he drags a suddenly trembly hand through his flame-bright hair. “i will leave you to rest alone tonight, i don’t want you uncomfortable with my presence. rest well.” because he certainly wouldn’t be.
DOES HE FORGIVE YOU? (╥﹏╥)
eventually.
depends on when you drop the act, honestly. if you let him sleep with the thought of you in the arms of another, he would be angry for months. he is not afraid to hold grudges, he’s held one against kaeya for years, you think he won’t put you under the same scrutiny for pulling something so cruel?
however, if you drag him back right before he can throw on his coat and sleep on the couch? he may be convinced to put you at arms length for less than a week. he loves you, he truly does. but playing around with something so sincere to him as your mutual love and respect is bordering the line of abandonment for him, and he is too afraid to test the strength of that rope again.
TARTAGLIA — ⊹ . ݁♡ ˖
HOW DOES HE REACT ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!
ajax is utterly, and completely, aghast. YOU? daring to love someone other than HIM? even his babcia has better grace in avoiding the question of; who the favourite grandchild is, while sneaking him pierogi beneath the table! you are BEYOND shameless!
truly, he is genuinely hurt. the fact he’s giving you a sharp glare, and an awfully long head shake says enough.
“wow, okay. not what i…expected on such a cozy night. you really couldn’t have picked out a better time to say all this, huh?” his laugh sounded more empty than teasing. “i’ll…well, i don’t actually know what to say to that, or if i should even console you.”
the silence lingers for a while, before he ultimately gets up and decides to pace. “i’ll definitely be taking back my mom’s barszcz (borscht) recipe, you can’t go trading off family secrets to someone else.” he’s unsure of what to do with his hands as his wandering around the room leads him to stand right in front of you. he’d grovel if he didn’t know you pretty well by now.
“oh, and i’m definitely taking all the kids in the divorce.”
DOES HE FORGIVE YOU? (╥﹏╥)
he found out pretty early into your little show that it was all a prank. you had your tells, and he would be embarrassed to not be able to spot at least one. however, just because he found out pretty early, doesn’t mean he will forgive you that easily.
he expects the full princess treatment.
he was quite hurt at one point! it’s one thing to say you don’t love him anymore, because hey, he’s got anecdotal evidence from last night that says otherwise, but to include that you went on to find someone ELSE? it nipped at his pride just the slightest. he wouldn’t admit that aloud, obviously. what’s he got to be jealous over anyway? you can’t find anyone crazier than him, both romantically and murderously!
that’s the beauty of his life! to coat you in kisses while his bloodstained palms cradle you! no he isn’t absolutely glaring at the short little mondstadt brat who’s taken an interest in you—but you do promise that he’s your favorite sparring buddy right? you won’t trade him off for anyone else? you’ll come home to cuddle and patch HIS wounds at the end of the day?
yes, he forgives you—but how much he nags you about your companions and competes with his own flattened ego isn’t much of an upgrade from what his resentment could’ve been.
NINGGUANG — ⊹ . ݁♡ ˖
HOW DOES SHE REACT ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!
she gives you a serious glance up and down. the countless of papers in her skilled fingers now filtering through her hands a little slower. she licks the edge of her thumb to tuck between two pages of a document, and laughs. “no you are not. lay down.” she even has the humble heart to pat the spot next to her as if you hadn’t said anything at all.
when you stood your ground, a little agitated at her inability to play with your theatrics, she squeezes your nose bridge between her thumb and forefinger and drags toy to her eye level.
“no one in liyue is quite so ill-willed as to steal you from my hands. you will sit, apologise, and turn to go to bed.” she says it like she’s simply reciting a report, and not scolding you for being unashamedly bratty. “trust me, dear. you cannot pay for the luxury of my jealousy with something so benign.”
DOES SHE FORGIVE YOU? (╥﹏╥)
she does, but not graciously. she treats every one of your attempts at gaining her attention as a transaction. relay some information to her, you might be met with some proper eye contact. if you pass her a document, she may be kind as to let her hand drift past yours.
she may have forgotten your kiss that morning. she swears it’s not intentional, but with the way she grins at your whining you can tell she isn’t really attempting hide her distaste at your antics, as much as she is trying to match your ludicrosity with shenanigans of her own.
ningguang claims this is a “play stupid games, win stupid prizes” situation, but she’s quite enjoying seeing you squirm so desperately.
FURINA — ⊹ . ݁♡ ˖
HOW DOES SHE REACT ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!
“WHAT!?”
first, she’s pissed at the first you interrupted an important crescendo in the vinyl records she was starting to hum along to, and second she’s pissed THAT’S what you decided to disturb her about!
furina doesn’t go outside enough to even pinpoint who in the world might’ve stolen your heart. there are plenty of eligible bachelors out that there would surely be pleased to have you. the entire idea makes her insides twist into knots, a ghoulish green darkens over her forehead, beads of sweat pricking her skin.
“hold on,” furina sucks in a huge breath, probably to swallow down a cry, shaking her hands out in denial, “aren’t you supposed to keep this sort of thing hidden? like a secret mistress that your first lover can’t find about because it disturbs both sides of the family that tried to keep you two together because—“ she’s rambling now. she knows it.
usually she would knock it off by any inkling of word vomit. keeps up the mystique and performance, she says. but panic overrides shame. better to distract herself from something so horrifically real, than to engage and realise that she will forever be a replacement for something greater.
DOES SHE FORGIVE YOU? (╥﹏╥)
NO!
yes, over time. she should’ve known by now that you were being a mere lousy comedian. this is how your relationship started in the first place. she was a fool to trust the mad words of a jester clown dressed in her lover’s robes. you can absolutely compensate by supplying her with desserts, but if you dare bring her something from a bakery instead of making it yourself, she will absolutely sulk.
the audacity to put her through utter turmoil as if it’s a stage show, and then buy her something prepackaged instead of made with love!! next time, she’ll be setting the house on fire, see how you enjoy a dramatic spectacle then.
WRIOTHESLEY — ⊹ . ݁♡ ˖
HOW DOES HE REACT ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!
wriothesley quirks a brow. his toned muscles flexing with an unnerving tension. fingers gently skimming over his ring. “is that right?” he nods, dragging a firm hand over the obvious grin peeling through his huffy disappointment. dragging you close with one arm around your waist, he stares up at you. face all smug and complaisant. “i wonder who in the fortress fit your fancy. you’ve got pretty high standards, after all. must be a real catch.”
“too bad,” he chuckles, a sudden click on your wrist draws your attention. a sterling silver, one not too different from your wedding band, chains itself to both your wrists. “you’re stuck with me, darling.”
DOES HE FORGIVE YOU? (╥﹏╥)
he doesn’t care. call it cockiness, ego, or mere trust, but he knows your tomfoolery off by heart now. however, he knows that if he was still green in your relationship, this would’ve genuinely scarred him in some way. maybe not in a lifelong traumatic experience way, but in the way that it carves a certain part of your heart and fills with an ominous expectation for the worst.
he’s secure now, he knows it. or at least hopes that’s the case. that “what if it was real” factor definitely kept him up for a night or two. if you catch him staring at his ring finger a little more often, or keeping a tighter arm around your waist during greetings, don’t mention it.
NEFER — ⊹ . ݁♡ ˖
HOW DOES SHE REACT ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!
nefer has never been amused by your antics. she will scoff or laugh, sometimes maybe join you before flicking at your forehead in gentle reprimand. but she never takes you seriously. even less so, when the subject of your comedy comes to a poorly thought out cheating scandal.
“you don’t leave the house enough to meet someone in nod krai, someone who i don’t know no less, who would be willing to deal with your mischief,” she snickers, leaning back against her arm chair to prop her chin up on her palm, eyes narrowing with an awfully mirthful scrutiny, “let alone someone from another nation.”
when you stumble with your words, she shakes her head. “besides, if you were disloyal, i would be the first to know—and the first to bury you.”
you can’t exactly tell if that was meant to be a joke or not…
DOES SHE FORGIVE YOU? (╥﹏╥)
if there’s no evidence for it, or a whisper of a scandal even in something so painfully biased and boring as the papers, she does not believe you. honestly, you should be apologising for that pitiable performance you put on, and for the fact you thought she would truly fall for it. don’t offend her intelligence.
LOHEN — ⊹ . ݁♡ ˖
HOW DOES HE REACT ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!
well, he was deep in coating his dagger with an inky cyanide concoction, so you’re lucky he’s learned the sound of your footsteps from all your countless attempts at sneaking behind him, otherwise who knows where that silver would’ve ended up.
he’s startled, but not because he believes you, because he’s surprised you have the audacity to be so forward.
“this is low for you, but i’m probably worse for enjoying it.” he chuckles, putting the lacerated knife-edge through your dresser, accompanying several, scathing marks in the wood from previous attempts. lifting you up just slightly off the floor, his arms beneath your thighs to keep you close, lohen’s sharp grin presses against your stomach.
“is it captain eula? she’s grown into a fine knight in her own right, but you’d probably get bored of her quiet real quick. i’d say diluc, he’s got the charisma for it, but you don’t like them too sweet and simple, do you?” he sets you down, forcing you to stare directly into his intense gaze with a small flick of his finger beneath your chin. “or is it master varka that’s caught your attention? i should’ve known to sneak more kuuvahki plants in his dandelion wine…”
yeah, now he’s just listing off people he wants to fight. hey, maybe if you get close to them with some flirting he’d be able to!
DOES HE FORGIVE YOU? (╥﹏╥)
yeah of course. he won’t lie, the entire ordeal made him feel oddly giddy. he’s a masochist and sadist all in one, and when you’re involved with the indulgence of subtle torture? it makes his heart race. he doesn’t really know why you decided to do something like this, or where it came from, but it was awfully enjoyable.
truly, he should be thanking you for letting him find things out about himself so shamelessly. next time, try to make it more realistic by seducing an actual knight instead of acting the pitiable spouse, it’s much more enjoyable seeing you squirm then.
They know they shouldn't feel this way, especially since you're not even theirs to begin with. But the heart knows what it wants, no matter how much it is denied.
notes — Furina, Diluc, Xiao, gender-neutral reader, slight navia, kaeya, and yantao cameos, part 2 soon
Xiao
If asked for his opinion, Xiao will say he definitely hates you. He was completely fine with solitude, yet you came like a whirlwind and forced yourself into his life. Asking him to have lunch together, insisting on walking home with him, trying to arrange outings on weekends, and so on. He could never understand you and your persistence. He wishes you would one day finally learn how to give up and leave him alone.
“I think [Name] is crushing on someone.” Hutao says to her friend as if it were a fact.
Xiao’s stomach dropped, he twisted his head so fast he almost broke his neck. He wasn't even included in the conversation–being a few feet away from them, but he couldn't just ignore what the girls had just said. Maybe he had misheard, or misunderstood something. Don’t be rash Xiao. He scolds himself, yet he can’t help it. His rationality flies out the window when it comes to you, another reason why he wants you out of his life.
“Now that you mention it, there were moments that made me a bit…suspicious.” What moments? there were signs? Xiao had never realized anything out of the ordinary. Xiao would definitely notice if you fancied someone, he has known you for long enough. Whatever could Yanfei be talking about? Before he could wonder further, Hutao answered for him.
“I think I first realized when they started baking for him. Apparently they made cookies specifically for him! I couldn't even try a bite!” Xiao is aware of your recent new hobby, he had become the taste tester for all your newest sweets, and you would ask for his opinions, to help you improve next time. Before, he had only thought of it as bothersome (purposefully excluding that he would always look forward to what you made and even waited for you at the roof every break time). However, with this new information…could it be that…
You had been trying to improve making desserts for this special someone? Unbelievable. Has he been unknowingly providing aid to you as you pursue someone else!? What a fool he was! tricked by your cute pleading eyes to help the enemy!
"Right! And they keep bringing him up in every conversation, like I could be talking about how a pig flew past me and they would STILL relate it to him somehow." Weird examples aside, Xiao racks his brain thinking of anyone you've mentioned often in the past few days. He remembers you excitedly bringing up the stoic man you met at Liyue from your work. He's also reminded of your complaint about a giant white haired delinquent with his eccentric and boisterous nature from Inazuma, and he couldn't forget how he froze in fear when you told him Childe had started befriending you. And he has only considered the male candidates, what if you were also interested in girls? Then there would be many more options to consider.
Each candidate he thinks of only succeeds in deepening his frown further. He detests even the idea of you with any of these people, They wouldn't be able to handle the entirety of you, your incessant nagging, your pushy and persistent nature, your laugh as the sunset paints you in an orange hue. They simply cannot bear it, they’re too weak for you (just like he was when you first flashed him your smile).
Then, is this it? Is he losing you for good…? wait no- this is good, he wanted this. He should be happy. He could finally move on from you, and pretend the butterflies in his stomach never existed.
Yet all he felt was uneasiness.
He starts to imagine a life without you, yet nothing comes up. It would be too dull, he cannot even remember what life was like before he met you. You have ruined him and his carefully designed self isolation.
He felt the need to do something about it, then Xiao walked away with resolute, unaware of the conversation he left behind. The two girls stare from behind as he powerwalks away.
"...Should we tell him that we knew he was there?”
Hutao stares at the direction the lovesick boy ran off to “Nah, it’s about time he showed a little chivalry.”
Yanfei gives her friend a deadpan look before responding,“I don't think him eavesdropping on our conversation was very chivalrous.”
“Shh, let him cook.”
“Hutao please never say that in front of me ever again.”
Furina
No no no NO!!! This is all wrong, you're not supposed to be spending your time with her. Someone like Navia does not truly understand the value of your presence. That heathen is wasting your time, time that you should have spent with Furina instead! She graciously went out of her way to invite you for tea time. You should have been ecstatic, Furina even kindly went out of her way to obtain rare tea leaves all the way from Inazuma, (because you mentioned your curiosity over a specific flavour one time) and dressed up to leave you in awe of her impeccable fashion taste and unrivaled beauty.
Yet you rejected her offer because you had made "previous plans" with Navia!? Unacceptable. Someone like Furina absolutely cannot accept such a rejection. Navia must be scheming to take you away, she can't possibly lose you.
You are after all, her biggest fan.
In order to right this wrong, Furina will take it upon herself to find you. Oh! how terribly kind she is! Despite your audacity to leave her hanging, you are still allowed to be enveloped in Furina's presence. (Not because she hasn't seen you in days and misses your presence, of course. That'd be ridiculous)
Realizing the risk of losing a precious fan of hers forever, Furina understands that there is to be no room left for blunder. But not to worry, this master strategist has cooked up the perfect plan.
step one : crash your little date with Navia.
step two : impress you with her spectacular tricks and steal your attention with her impeccable wit and charm.
step three : you forget about Navia completely and swoons for Furina.
step four : you ditch your date, carry Furina in your arms and take her out on the best romantic evening in all of Fontaine! no, in all of Teyvat!
The plan is flawless! By the end of it you will barely remember the blonde girl’s name.
—
“Oh hi guys! Fancy meeting you here.” Of course, ‘tis was no mere coincidence. Furina had already been aware of your whereabouts and placed herself there. All part of the first step of her plan. She’s sure that you would be ecstatic to see her once more.
“F-Furina! What’re you doing here…!” For some reason you become tense at the sight of her. But she understands, being caught off guard by her presence tends to do so. Furina flashes you her sweetest smile.
“I had some free time! Thought I could find you to help around.” She spots a hint of blonde hair behind her, “Neither of you mind, right?” Your movements are incredibly awkward, avoiding Furina to look over at Navia, who nods at you. A small part of Furina is irked by it, it's as if you two are hiding something from her.
“Sure, the more the merrier right?” Step one is successful.
However it proves to be difficult to complete step two, due to how focused you are on your shopping. Why are you choosing between two different buttons like your life depends on it? She’s trying to charm you here!
“Navia, which of these fabrics would fit better?” You’ve been calling that name way too often for Furina’s liking. She’s quite knowledgeable in the art of textiles too you know. What makes Navia better than her?
There's a growing ache in her chest when she sees you smiling at Navia, Why don't you look at her that way? Then you giggle at something Navia said, Furina can feel strings tugging at her heart, breaking it apart, an uncomfortable feeling gnaws inside her.
She is quickly regretting her whole plan, it is clear that you are enamored with that girl already. And Furina is no match for someone that amazing, it hurts her to say but all she's doing right now is holding you back from true happiness.
Feeling dejected, Furina says her half-hearted goodbyes, leaves you two to the date that she almost ruined, then laid in the comfort her bed, embracing her sorrows. She doesn't remember much after that.
Before she knew it, Furina had been wallowing in her room for the past three days. What snaps her out of it is the knock on her door, followed by a voice she registered as yours. Wait, you're here!? But she looks like an absolute mess!!
“Uhm! Just a minute! I have some…confidential information I need to put away!” It’s not perfect but it's the only excuse she can think of.
“Oh, Alright then! Take your time.” Oh she definitely will. While she knows she can't compete with your beloved, at the very least she needs to look presentable enough for you. Yes, that's exactly why she’s dressed up and checked the mirror at least 3 times before finally opening the door.
She’s greeted by the view of you sitting down on her front porch, you stood up at the sight of her, huffing out a breath of relief. Did she worry you? Or were you just glad she finally opened the door? Or maybe you were huffing out of anger Furina’s inner thoughts clashed with each other.
“Forgive me for taking so long, there was- uh, some technical difficulties.”
You shake your head. “No need, It's my fault for coming over without informing you.”
“Would you like to come inside? We can chat over some tea.”
“I would love that.” You softly grin at her, which upsettingly sets off fireworks in Furina's heart. You're taken, she has to remind herself.
“Again, so sorry to bother you today Furina, I understand that you have a tight schedule and don't quite appreciate sudden visits.” You say as Furina goes to pour you a cup of tea. (the same brew she wanted to gift you that day)
“You’re lucky I had some free time today,” and the last three days, but you don't need to know that. “But next time, I’d appreciate a notice beforehand, then you wouldn't have to freeze out in the open for so long.” You nod once before grinning at her again.
And well, there's not much she can do when you give her your smile.
“But before that, could I ask you why you had been so distant the last time we met? I don't want to pry but I still want to help, is anything troubling you?” Furina panics, she didn't think you would notice, her mind is drawing blanks.
“Ohh that? I was uh-” She looks around her room, grasping for anything that she can get, she finds an idea when she spots the closet door she left ajar earlier. “–Reminded to clean out my closet! Yes, haha… Gotta replace old raggedy things with something better quality you know.” After all, what's the use of having some scrap and cheap imitation, when you can get something real, something far more suitable to you, something that’s not incomplete and considered a fraud by society.
“Oh I wouldn't be able to relate to that. I quite like my old clothes. It's the ones that have stayed with me through everything.” Furina does not give you a response, because she doesn't quite understand your interests in things that are deemed useless by most, and she probably never will.
“Anyways, I was mainly here to give you… this” You hand her a small box decorated with a blue ribbon on top, it was lightweight, and made a slight shuffling noise when she shook it. How did she miss your attempt at hiding this from her?
“I don't believe this is my birthday?” You chuckle at her dumbfounded expression.
“It is not a birthday present, Chiori was teaching me and Navia how to sew. So I decided to make something for you.” For her? You handcrafted this for her?
She opens the gift, to find a white haired doll with limbs sloppily sewn together, a crooked smile. Despite that, she recognises that it vaguely resembles herself. She also recognises the fabric it is made out of, and it finally hits her why you had been shopping with Navia.
how foolish of her! She tried to steal your attention when you were trying to make her the most thoughtful gift! The revelation badly embarrasses her, tinting her cheeks red, even just looking at you is far too much for her right now.
“W-well! it IS decent, not quite close to capturing my greatness… But, I appreciate your efforts. Thank you.” Damn it all, why did she have to stutter, and why can't her heart stop racing. She refuses to admit you made her feel this way.
“Now if you’ll excuse me, The Great Furina will need some time with herself.” She pushes you out of the room. “But—”
“Good bye!”
“Wait—” Furina slams the door on you before you could say anything. Once alone, she looks down at the beady eyes of the doll you handcrafted for her. Utterly ridiculous, she thinks. Who the hell is stupid enough to put that much effort on her? You did, and the thought of it ignites a giddy feeling in her chest, she cannot fight the smile forming on her face.
She keeps the doll near her person at all times, safe and unseen by others, but cherished just as much as she does you.
Diluc Ragvindr
Diluc believes that judging others before he gets to know them is incredibly shallow. What matters most to him is someone's values above all.
Yet, the guy you are currently speaking to brings a tight feeling in his chest. He can't stand him, it’s painfully obvious that he’s just trying to hit on you. Just who the hell does he think he is?
However Diluc deems it an irrational feeling, you are not his and he is not yours. No matter how many times his eye twitches every time that sleazy creature tries a pick-up line on you. Ridiculous he thinks, If Diluc were to court you he would do it properly, he wouldn't use something as immature as pick-up lines. You deserve the most beautiful flowers and sincere compliments that come from his heart, wait- but if you're into pick-up lines then maybe he would consider using them— He’s getting off track. Diluc could only sigh at the pathetic state he's in.
Despite how much he hates the vermin currently talking to you, he held some kind of respect for him due to his bravery. He has done something Diluc never managed to do, and that is to have the courage to court you.
That is why he’s stewing in jealousy while you're being whisked away by someone in the worst attire he’s ever seen. Your smile (that's not for him) tugs at Diluc’s heart, why can’t he be the reason you smile?
“You're practically shooting lasers at the guy.” A familiar, annoying voice stops his pity party, he can almost hear the smirk in his tone. “I didn't think you would be the jealous type.”
“Don't be ridiculous Kaeya, I’m just concerned whether or not his intentions with [Name] are pure.” He’s not being completely truthful, he’s aware, and so is Kaeya.
“Right, sure. And I eat slime condensate for breakfast.”
“Will you cut that out? I really am just concer—” Before Diluc could defend himself, something else distracts him.
The slimeball next to you raises his hand and reaches for the top of your head. Suddenly something hot flashes inside Diluc, his mind is empty, what's left is the pure rage he feels at that scum’s audacity.
“[Name].” The way he says your name held no warmth, it caught both you and the guy’s attention. His sudden attempt at diversion worked, the hand stops mid-air as you turn around to face Diluc. He releases a sigh of relief, the dark look he had before escapes, then panic catches up to him.
“Yes, Sir Diluc?” You inquire, tilting your head in confusion. Oh sevens. He’s lost it. The regret of what he just did is hitting him way too late.
He definitely didn't plan this far ahead.
But he feels the urgency to say something, anything as long as it gets rid of the man next to you.
“I- uh-” Yet he can't think of anything to answer, you and the thing next to you stared at him, waiting for an answer.
In the midst of his scrambled brain, Kaeya interrupts with a smirk. “He was wondering whether you would be available to help him with managing the bar, it's going to be a busy day you see.”
Your tense shoulders relax, then you smile at Diluc, which replaces his internal panic with butterflies in his stomach.
“I’d be glad to help, Sir Diluc.” Oh how he wishes to stay in that moment forever, just you and him, with no sleazebags trying to hit you up.
“Well, I-uh, I deeply appreciate it.” Diluc can already tell Kaeya is resisting the urge to laugh in his face. He supposes he’ll let him this time, Kaeya helped to give him an excuse to spend some time with you after all. The man next to you though, is clearly not okay with this at all, the frown on his face says it all. But it goes away quick, replaced by a sly grin directed at you.
“Oh come on! You promised me a date didn't you?”
“I didn't promise you anything. Now please excuse me, I have some important business to attend to.” you turn to walk away from the guy, you walk towards Diluc. The guy doesn't seem to understand your rejection though.
“But—”
“I believe they’ve already made their point clear.” Diluc intervenes, refusing to accept a no is something that he cannot stand. He stared him down like a hawk, no other words were said, Diluc’s cold gaze sent a shiver down his spine.
“Fine, whatever.” With his tail tucked between his legs, the guy finally decides to leave.
“Thanks Diluc, the guy just refused to give up, no matter what I said.”
His eyes lit up upon your clear disinterest. “It was my pleasure.” His heart was no longer beating quickly due to panic, but because of the warm look you gave him that made his knees weak.
“So you’re not interested in dating at all?” Fuck. He forgot Kaeya was still there. He sends his brother a deadly glare at his question, which he responds with a playful shrug.
You hum, thinking of a way to answer. Every second fills Diluc with dread, does he have any chance at all?
“I think my type is more the broody businessman type.” Even though you answered Kaeya’s question, you stared at Diluc intently. Your answer leaves him stunned silent, yet internally he can't stop feeling elated. He turns away to hide the grin on his face, he must look like an idiot right now.

“No. N-no…help! Someone—anyone, save me!”
Your cry, in all its raw—and quite frankly, impressive—anguish, was met with no response other than its own sorry echo, ringing off the indifferent city walls to find your ears again in a cruel taunt. The swarm of enemies was drawing nearer, your throat had gone hoarse from all your shouting, your legs had gone weak from stumbling through the dark, winding alleyways—and still, no one came.
Brain scrambling for the correct words to say, you ignored the rasp in your voice and tried again, like if you spun together a plea compelling enough, it would satisfy the mastermind looking down on you in vague amusement and convince them to offer you the key to your salvation.
“I don’t want to die like this! I can’t! My mother is still terribly ill. Please, for her sake, if not mine!”
The key met its lock, and at long last, salvation arrived. Not on the back of a noble stallion or with the mighty swing of a blade, but in a graceful twirl of blue and white. Rainless clouds passing leisurely through the sky on a pleasant summer day, shielding you from the burn of the sun without blocking out the light entirely.
You blinked the blurriness out of your eyes as your hero emerged from the mist with an elegance so captivating, it may as well have turned the battlefield into a stage. A knight draped in ornate cerulean clothes with locks of hair spun from the heavens, donning a sword that was more a work of art to be put on display than it was a weapon.
Despite your predicament, you found yourself thinking what a waste it would be for such beauty to be sullied for your sake—not just the pristine blade, but the face of the one wielding it.
“Halt, fiends! With this sword, I will bring you to justice!” A gloved hand reached out to guard your curled up form with confidence so convincing that it distracted you from how dainty your savior actually was. “You may put your fears to rest, my lady. Such a haunted expression is unfit for a beautiful damsel such as yourself.”
You were met with a brilliant, pearly smile, oozing charm and stretching all the way up to eyes that stole starlight from the sky. Two cuts of sapphire, each gleaming a different shade of blue as if every layer of the ocean had been crystallized and preserved inside of them.
Unable to help yourself any longer, you broke.
“Perhaps it’s above me to say so, but I’d argue that such a gruesome job is unfit for a knight as breathtaking as you.”
Your savior faltered, slipping on the sweet syrup of your words for just a brief moment before hastily scrambling to regain composure; ever the professional. With the way your lips began to twitch with amusement, you had to force yourself to do the same before the scene fell apart entirely.
“You flatter me, Miss. I am but a humble servant of the Kingdom, here to protect Her Majesty’s subjects. Now, stand back and allow me to—”
“I’m afraid I can’t do that in good conscience,” you interrupted, peering up to fully admire the knight. A round, smooth visage completely unscarred by battle and long, thick eyelashes that could’ve garnered a breeze with every blink. “I’d hate for a single drop of blood to land on a pretty face like yours. Isn’t there someone else from Her Majesty’s court who can rescue me?”
At that, the heel of a navy blue loafer stomped against the ground, followed by a huff so unbecoming of the noble knight guarding your trembling form; no longer trembling with fear, but with barely contained laughter. All at once, the dreary, bloodstained cobblestone melted away into familiar wooden floors, and the looming walls of the Kingdom crumbled into a small bedroom consisting of scattered manuscripts and mismatched costumes from past performances.
“Hey,” Furina whined. “Are you taking this seriously!?”
You threw a hand over your heart, putting on your best distressed front when all you really wanted to do was fawn over the way she pursed her lips at you, cheeks swelling out like an overfilled creampuff.
“Of course I am. I nearly blew out my vocal chords for you,” you feigned offense. “But aren’t you always saying that any actress worth her salt should be able to improvise? I’m just giving you a chance to show off your skills, my love.”
She raised an eyebrow, thoroughly unconvinced. Even so, she couldn’t ignore how the challenge in your words—however good-natured it was—nipped playfully at the back of her neck. “You…i-it’s not like we’re rehearsing a script, here! This is meant to be for fun.”
“Well, I’m having lots of fun. Aren’t you?”
You cocked your head innocently, and she let out a sigh that was more performative than anything else, slumping down onto her bed and crossing one leg over the other. “I would be if you cared to remember that Princess Aalis doesn’t recognize her feelings for Sir Estienne until chapter seventeen. She’d never be so…so forward with her affections. I’m certain we’ve discussed this in great detail!”
“But Sir Estienne doesn’t have a face like yours. Isn’t it a little unfair to ask me not to act accordingly?”
Those puffed out cheeks were now turning a faint, but unmistakable shade of pink, and Furina promptly buried her face in The Queen’s Crown to deny you the satisfaction of witnessing them, fussing to herself about how she possibly could’ve fallen for someone so unprofessional with such an impudent disregard for the arts.
The novel had been her latest obsession for months now, with the long-awaited sequel having finally been released after years of agonizing anticipation. She practically had it memorized cover to cover at this point, with you not far behind after all the hours the two of you had spent dissecting the plot as if you were critics writing for a column in The Steambird.
While she was busy trying to scan for where you left off in your roleplay, you noticed her expression morphing into one that was all too recognizable, that subtle crack in her bravado that she still tried to keep hidden from you, sometimes. Watching her fingernails tap at the book’s hard cover with growing uncertainty, you began to feel a tinge of guilt for going off-script, even if the knowledge that you were the only person in Teyvat capable of getting Furina to break character was unbelievably satisfying.
“Here,” she said at last, turning The Queen’s Crown towards you and pointing at a block of text near the top of the page. “Let’s skip to this section, since you’re unusually keen to get to the romance, today.”
Skimming over the paragraph she’d flipped to, you felt your heart do a little twirl when you realized that, in spite of her annoyance, she’d chosen to act out one of your favorite scenes in the book. Still, enthused as you were, it wasn’t enough to overpower your pesky protective instinct that always took precedence with Furina, a deep-seated need to ensure that she never had to feign a smile or cut corners of herself for your sake.
“Wanna finish rescuing me first?” You rested your chin on the hilt of her sword, apologetic. “This scene won’t have its intended impact without the proper buildup, right?”
Furina cleared her throat, placing her book to the side and trying to ignore how your gaze was boring into her from below with such honest affection—such sincerity that she envied as greatly as she adored.
“Seems you haven’t completely forgotten everything I taught you.” She stood back up, reassuming her proud, valiant stance that you knew she longed to embody for you not just through fantasy, but in your day to day life, as well. “Alright then, from the top!”
You ran through Princess Aalis’ rescue once more, fulfilling Furina’s wishes with your most pitiful, award-winning cries of despair that would surely earn a few complaints from your neighbors next door. Still, despite how unnaturally the role came to you (and the slight prickle of self-consciousness you felt over your theatrics) you played the damsel in distress to perfection, for no reason other than because of how endearing it was to witness Furina visibly buzzing with delight beneath the mask of her character.
She could barely suppress the approving curl of her lips each time you executed a line just the way she’d directed, ocean eyes gleaming with vindication when you leaned on her fragile frame for support and gushed about the brilliance of her bladework—everything she dreamed to be for you.
When the time came for you to play out your favorite chapter, you could tell she was fully in her element once more. The two of you sat across from each other on her bed, hands inching closer on the deep blue waters of her comforter without daring to bridge the gap, just as the main characters had done. After all that time you’d spent admiring Furina without the privilege of doting on her like your entire being ached to do, Princess Aalis’ yearning may as well have been as real as yours.
“I was always afraid back then,” you began, playing anxiously with her bedsheets to help sell the idea; a detail that you were certain she’d appreciate. “From the day we first met, I’ve been ruled by fear. That’s why I reject it, now. I reject anything that may keep us apart. I love you, Estienne.”
She could preach about professionalism all she wanted, but that didn’t prevent Furina’s heartbeat from picking up as though the confession was truly meant for her—which, in all fairness, she knew you’d gladly claim it was, however difficult she still found the notion to wrap her head around. You didn’t have to play a character to say it, and she didn’t have to play a character to be worthy of hearing it.
Her expression churned with inner turmoil, one that you couldn’t focus on for too long without thinking about how naturally she could channel the emotion after centuries of it living under her skin.
“Please, my lady. You mustn't let me forget myself,” she whispered. “I am but a lowly knight. But you? You are of royal blood.”
“And yet, you saved me when I was nobody.”
Your hand finally inched forward to rest over hers, fingers lacing together so fiercely, you’d think there really was some malicious, unseen force threatening to rip you away from each other. The line between performance and reality was already so easily blurred when it came to Furina, but now especially, you began to get the sense that she’d drowned herself in her own fantasies.
She lifted your hand with all the same care one would handle a precious gemstone, bringing it to her lips in a kiss so chaste, yet so electrifying.
“You were never nobody, my princess. Not to me.”
The waver in her voice was convincing enough to have you wishing you could surge forward and seal your lips to hers that instant. But you vividly remembered the critical moment in the story where Aalis and Estienne had finally shared their first kiss—namely, how Furina had been kicking her feet on her mattress in a fit of giddiness and uncontrollable squeals. You’d never told her outright, but that was the real reason why you called this scene your favorite.
The years and years of mutual longing, the mountain of repressed affections between lovers scorned by fate, they all came unleashed at once in a single meeting of mouths. You had to make it count, for her sake.
Your long pause would typically have her reminding you of your next line under her breath, but the proximity seemed to be getting to her, this time. Instead, her gaze was flickering between your eyes and your lips, so expectant, like a kitten following the hypnotizing sway of a string. You rested one hand on her cheek, and it bloomed pink between your fingers, breaking through the persona she’d worked so hard to embody.
“Then…allow me to show you what you are to me,” you murmured.
The press of your lips came so unbelievably soft, but it crushed her poise with ease all the same, seizing up her hand beneath yours and slumping her flawless posture. Suddenly, there was no Aalis or Estienne or any role to fulfill, there was only you and your mouth enveloping hers in a blanket of warmth. She parted her lips in an attempt to take the initiative, just as a knight should, but all it served to do was draw a half-formed, undignified mewl out of her when your tongue slid against hers in a kiss of its own.
Sugar and tea flooded your senses, but neither were quite as sweet as her natural taste. The shape of your grin molded against her mouth, and she felt her cheeks burn hotter under your palm; another embarrassing reaction that she was certain you’d delight in.
“Focus, baby,” you whispered into her lips.
Furina leaned forward a bit too quickly to compensate, nose bumping against yours as she tried to emulate the passion she’d felt pouring from the pages of her novel. You allowed her to without putting up any resistance, an amused little hum rumbling in your throat that somehow weakened her resolve even more than if you’d just continued bending her to your will.
Stubbornly, she tilted her jaw to the side and sucked your lower lip into her mouth. It earned a faint shudder from you that she could feel against her body, but she only had a second to relish in it before the move swiftly backfired as your hands drifted up to card through her hair, pushing back her swooping bangs and making her head spin wonderfully.
Furina whimpered as you gave the silky threads a tug, unsure whether it was meant to be encouragement, or a cruel trick to make all her assertiveness crumble unceremoniously under your fingers.
Then, your other hand squeezed at the slender dip of her waist, and she swiftly decided that it must be the latter.
You broke apart for just a moment, mouth still ghosting over hers so that the laugh you puffed out tickled her sensitive skin, warm breath on wet, swelling lips.
“That’s not how this scene plays out, Furina."
Her lashes fluttered open, a haze clouding over those perpetually shining irises for a few beats before she came back to her senses, bristling with indignation.
“H-hah. Well, Princess Aalis wasn’t so…so—!”
“So?”
“You know exactly what you’re doing!” she complained, turning her head away and lifting her chin to maintain some form of dignity. “That touch was completely unnecessary! Don’t distract me from my performance.”
“There’s no audience here, just you and me.” You faked a frown, and you could’ve sworn you saw disappointment paint her pretty face when she felt your hand start to pull away from her hips. “I was only kissing you like I’m supposed to. Not my fault you get worked up so easily.”
You spoke to her gently as ever, but Furina was nothing if not a master of reading between the lines—especially when it came to that playful lilt in your voice that she simultaneously wished she could prove wrong, and let herself fall under the spell of.
Suddenly, she straightened up as if controlled by an invisible string, lifting both her feet up on the bed so that she could face you properly (and, more importantly, to keep her traitorous thighs from pressing together.)
“Again,” she muttered.
Before you could get a word in, she gathered up her dwindling confidence and leaned into you once more, plush lips cushioning what would’ve otherwise been an unusually forceful kiss from her. You let out a muffled sound of surprise, barely audible, but still enough to spur on her sudden burst of boldness. Letting go of her waist, you cupped both her cheeks with your hands, squishing her soft skin like dough in your hands to calm the kisses that ranged somewhere between impassioned and adorably uncoordinated.
Furina had gone centuries and centuries without knowing the weight of another hand in hers, the comfort of lips pressing seamlessly against hers in an organic, binding lock, the frightening exhilaration of her body being pulled flush against another, as though it were something tangible—real and worthy of experiencing, not just a vessel for divine lies. Even if she hadn’t quite grown accustomed to how easily your touch came to her, she was certain she’d never be able to live without it again.
She mimicked you, or at least attempted to, curling her fingers around your waist without fully committing to grabbing it, pressing down into your flesh with a need that she wasn’t entirely certain she deserved to feel.
“What—mmph—what’s gotten into you, baby?” you chuckled into her mouth, going a little breathless when she nipped at the skin of your bottom lip, rolling it between pearly white teeth that were only known for showstopping smiles, not hunting for validation in your flesh.
You pressed down on her face a little firmer, giving her no choice but to hold still so that you could look her in the eye properly. Her features were uneasy and practically radiating desire, troubled by her own wants in a way that you were certain belonged to her, no longer a side effect of the role she was playing.
She pressed her lips into a line, letting out a frustrated little exhale through her nose. “Don’t…don’t make fun of me, alright?”
“I’m not really in the position for that, am I?”
Furina followed your pointed gaze down to where your legs were spread to make room for her, your chest rising and falling far less evenly than usual after she’d all but kissed the air from your lungs. Everything she longed to have, but didn’t know how to accept.
“I want to make your heart race,” she mumbled, eyes downcast, dismissing it as a ridiculous pipe dream before the confession had even fully left her lips.
You, on the other hand, were completely unfazed, rubbing your thumbs over her blushing face to soothe some of the tension trapped behind her creased eyebrows and downturned mouth. When observing her this closely, you could see the faint shadow of her eyebags, so much less burdensome than they used to be, but not quite yet faded.
“You think you don’t already?” you said plainly. “Just being with you is enough for that.”
Before she could accuse you of flattery, you freed her face from your gentle cradle to take one of her hands in yours, placing it over the curve of your chest so that she could feel your heart singing a melody inside of it. Your pulse still hadn’t fully calmed down, even after the kiss had long broken, and pathetically enough, Furina’s breath stuttered audibly, fingers squeezing around you like she wanted to materialize the sensation of your heartbeat to turn into a keepsake for herself.
That wonderstruck look beneath her beaded lashes stirred something within you, and you were certain she could feel your blood pump even faster as you reached up to begin unbuttoning her jacket.
“Feel it? That’s what you do to me, Furina.”
A ripple passed through her body, right down to where her dainty fingertips sank into your flesh. You could see it rocking her small frame as her clothes slipped down to pool around her waist, putting her own heart on display where it pounded beneath the cage of her protruding ribs. No masks or extravagant garments to hide behind.
“I’m meant to be a knight,” she insisted softly. “Valiant and honorable a-and…ah—” A whimper slipped from her mouth as your hands traveled up the smooth, creamy plane of her stomach, and she shot you a helpless look, as if she expected you to do something about her inability to keep a handle on her own emotions—a phenomenon that was still so foreign to her.
Every whine that was like music to your ears felt more to her like an anvil being raised above her head with a rope, pulled higher and higher in tandem with the growing pitch of her voice. There had to be some kind of punishment waiting around the corner each time her true self dared to peek its head out; there always was.
“Chivalrous,” she managed to grit out at last. “A safe haven for my lady.”
“You’re all of those things without playing a character, my love,” you placated her, tugging her closer so that she nearly collapsed into you. “So let the princess reward you for your nobility, okay?”
Furina blinked, bewildered for a moment, before her pupils dilated into tiny moons as you laid back against her pillows, inviting her on top of you. It was a sight she so rarely got to witness when, most of the time, her head was busy burying itself in the crook of your neck, lost in her own ecstasy.
“Wh-what?” she squeaked, immediately dumbfounded when offered the very thing she’d been vying for. “You mean…? What should I—?”
Wrapping your fingers around her wrist, you snagged the fabric of her glove between your teeth and tugged it slowly off of her hands. Bare, dainty fingers, more valuable to you than any of the jewels dripping from her clothing. Furina watched obediently, allowing you to guide her movements like a doll as you rested her hand at the dip of your waist.
“I believe Estienne touched her here.”
“He…he hesitated first,” she muttered in a weak defense. Even as you pressed down on the back of her hand, she couldn’t bring herself to do something as simple as hold you without fear of doing it wrong. “Both him and Aalis were grappling with their desire and their guilt. It’s what made the scene so memorable.”
“You're quite the method actor, then.”
You smiled up at her, and though you were more or less pinned underneath her body now, Furina was certain she’d never felt more vulnerable in her life.
“I think you could stand to feel a bit more guilt for…” she trailed off into something incoherent as you began undoing your own clothing, and she wasn’t sure which was more humiliating; the obvious crack in her voice, or how effortlessly you’d seen through her attempts to stall.
“For—” she swallowed. “—spoiling such an integral moment in the story.”
“I’m pretty good at spoiling things,” you mused, wiggling out of your garments so that the only thing that stood between your bare skin and Furina’s hand anymore was the thin, quickly dampening layer of your underwear. “I thought you liked it.”
Your chest fell free below her, thighs spreading in a clear invitation for her to do what she’d set out to do; to prove that she was more than just sugar-coated promises that were hollow when bitten into. A strange cocktail of emotions was brewing in her stomach; the shame of being incapable of sweeping you off your feet, even in her fantasies, and the comfort of knowing you would catch her when she was swept off of hers.
“What are you waiting for, baby?” you urged, so sweet and so cruel, pretending to offer her control that you knew she wasn’t equipped to deal with. “This is what you wanted, right? Make my heart race.”
Her hand trembled like a captured prey animal as you guided it under the waistband of your underwear, and when the tips of her fingers made contact with your heat, the noise that rose in her throat made you wish you could devour her like one.
“It’s n-not about what I want,” she insisted under her breath. “It’s for you, my love. I’ll be the one to make you…f-feel good, this time.”
You hummed to indulge her, and if Furina’s mind hadn’t been swallowed up by the promise of wet warmth teasing her fingers, she may have noticed how reminiscent it was of entertaining a child’s far-fetched fantasies. Determined to draw a different kind of sound out of you, she steeled herself and pressed her ring finger against your entrance, momentarily taken by the soft push of resistance before she was at last able to burrow past it and sink inside of you.
Her reaction came stronger than yours as she slipped all the way in at once, sheathed by a coating of your slick and the hot, tight hug of your walls, welcoming her as though she’d been inside of you countless times.
“Wet,” she gasped out, grimacing over her lack of eloquence as soon as the word flew from her mouth. “You’re like this because of m-me?”
This time, you sighed, feather-light, but still sending a staggering jolt of adrenaline up her spine. “All you, Furina. Not who you think you need to be.”
She averted her eyes, but not before you caught the gleam of gratification lighting them up. So transparent for you; no curtains or costumes in sight.
Though you’d taken her all the way to the final knuckle, you hardly needed any time to adjust to the feeling of her inside you, walls wrapping delicately around an even more delicate finger. Furina, on the other hand, looked as if she’d stepped into an entirely new world, awestruck and at a total loss as to how she should even begin to make you feel the same bliss you so effortlessly coaxed out of her.
You swept those wispy, ocean-streaked bangs of hers back to get a better look at her face, utterly mesmerized as she watched how the ring of your entrance accepted her with such ease.
“It…doesn’t hurt, does it?”
You bit back a giggle. Just one finger in, and she was already getting ahead of herself.
“No, baby. Not when I’m dripping this much.”
She almost wished she hadn’t asked. Cheeks glowing like a Lumitoile, she tried to get to work, only to fluster herself even further when your entrance immediately fluttered around her finger in tiny kisses the moment she shifted it inside you.
“Is this—is this wh-what it feels like when—” She bit her lower lip, struggling to find the least vulgar way to phrase her question when she felt like the heat of your walls was melting her brain.
You tilted your head, unassuming, but she knew as well as you did that you were taking a little too much pleasure in watching her struggle with words that her tongue typically spun into gold threads.
She cleared her throat, but it did nothing to fix how pitchy her voice had gone. “When you’re inside…o-of me?”
“Hmm. I dunno,” you pretended to mull it over. “What do I feel like for you?”
She sucked in a sharp inhale, taking shelter behind the veil of her hair once more and focusing fully on the mind-numbing squeeze of you around her. “You’re so soft,” she said, breathless as she dipped back inside of you, engulfed in a plush embrace that should’ve felt so filthy, but was nothing short of heavenly to her. “Every part of you is so soft, a-and—”
Gooey? She scolded herself over the sheer crudeness of the thought, shooing it away only to settle on something arguably even more embarrassing. “Wonderfully warm. Like…a-ah, a freshly baked pastry.”
An especially wet smack rang out as she pumped her finger all the way inside once again, and if that hadn’t been enough to make goosebumps rise on Furina’s neck, what you said next certainly was.
“A pastry?” you echoed, charmed. “Do you wanna taste it, baby?”
She sputtered, head ducking to avoid an amused gaze that she could feel boring into her, even with her eyes closed.
“If you do a good job for me, I’ll let you have as much as you want.”
Furina very much felt that she was the one in danger of being eaten alive, here. Suddenly, the tentative pace she’d managed to set fell back into that awkward, fumbling rhythm of someone attempting to play an instrument for the first time, and a low, dramatic whine of your name only made your stomach coil even tighter with delight.
“S-some decorum, please! I told you not to make fun of me!”
“And since when does a princess take orders from her knight?”
She opened her mouth to argue, then decided better of it with a cute, resigned huff. Though she’d never admit it aloud, there was a strange thrill to be found in you denying her something, for once, when most of the time all it took was a few strategic bats of her beaded lashes to get her way.
She retreated into her shoulder, pressing her cheek against it and—why was her face so hot? It surely must have been beet-red at this point for her to feel as though a spotlight was shining mere inches away from her skin. The thought of how pathetic she must look to you right now had her deciding that perhaps it was better not to talk herself into a corner anymore, so, all she could do was mumble out a meek apology, dutifully getting back to work as a loyal knight should.
The push and pull of her finger gradually became more steady again, gliding smoothly against your walls as she slid in and fighting against the irresistible suction of them as she slid out. You rested your head back against the pillows, eyes half-lidded with one hand lazily stroking her head, and Furina found herself thinking that you truly did look like royalty. If she could, she’d pluck one of the decorative crowns displayed on her dresser and place it on your head.
Other than the pretty haze of contentment flooding your features, Furina had nothing else to gauge whether or not she was performing properly. In fact, between the wet smacks that came with each drag of her finger and the little pants of effort he was letting out, she was making far more noise than you. It nagged at her psyche, silly as it was. She’d always had a bit more trouble containing her voice than you—an actress had to be expressive, after all!—but it was especially laughable for her to sound like your fingers were inside of her instead of vice versa.
Brows furrowing, she picked up her speed, earning a subtle buck of your hips that she savored like a morsel of the sweetest cake. Still, it wasn’t enough to satiate her desire to please you, nor her own greed. As badly as she wished she could, there was really no denying what you’d said earlier—she did love to be pampered by you. That was true whether you were drowning her in pleasure, or in praise; she didn’t just want a bite of the cake, she wanted the whole thing.
“You were so talkative before,” she noted quietly. “What happened?”
You may have thought she was teasing you, if not for the very obvious pout tugging at her mouth, turning any mockery into a shameless request for more attention.
“‘What do you want to hear?”
“I want…please, tell me that I’m—” she paused, nibbling at her lower lip in hopes of finding a more dignified manner to beg for your approval. I want, I want, I want—how spoiled.
“I-I mean. I'm doing it properly, aren’t I?”
“Don’t worry about that, baby,” you reassured her, reaching up to cup her sulking face. “You’re doing so well. Love seeing you put those pretty fingers to good use for me.”
She quivered in your palms. “But does it feel good? You’re…h—hah—hardly making a sound.”
At that, you hesitated, well aware that trying to deceive Furina was a fruitless endeavor when she was as finely attuned to the even slightest shift in your demeanor as the shore was to ocean tides. Centuries of deceiving others would do that to a person, you supposed.
Her face began to droop into something a bit crestfallen, and though a part of you could’ve cooed out loud, you still rushed to correct yourself, tenderly taking her free hand into yours and tugging off her other glove. Adorable. Such a big fuss over something so small, something that was a complete non-issue to you.
“Your fingers…” you began gently, placing a kiss to the back of her hand with all the same reverence she’d kissed yours, soft skin melting under your lips like buttercream frosting. “They’re perfect to me, Furina. So delicate.” You pecked her fingertips. “And cute.” You dragged your mouth along her knuckles. “And small.”
Furina’s face ignited so intensely, you could practically see the steam rising from her flushed skin like a marine volcano on the verge of eruption.
“O-oh,” she squeaked. “I see.”
You smiled against her hand, and she had trouble accepting the sheer fondness radiating from your gaze, even when she’d failed at the most basic of tasks. It made her head spin, with lust, with confusion, and an all-consuming need to do better for you. Without warning, her middle finger prodded at your entrance, gliding around the wet, plush ring in a tentative plea to join the other nestled inside of you.
“Th-then, please, may I? If my hands can’t protect you, at least let them—let me please you.”
You softened, dragging two fingers between the valley of her breasts and down to the waistband of her shorts, making her stomach contract wildly, like she’d already forgotten what it was like to be on the receiving end of a touch. “You really are a noble knight, my love,” you murmured. “How about this?”
Wide pools of blue darted down to where you traced over the damp spot forming through her clothes, any response she hoped to muster effectively being ripped from her throat in a sharp hiccup.
“I know you have a talent for adapting. Just follow my lead, okay?”
She nodded, just short of frantic. “Anything the princess wants,” she replied. Weak, but unfairly charming, even when her fingers were shaking like a leaf inside of you as your own dipped into her underwear and pushed against her slit.
“I haven’t even touched you, baby,” you marveled at the wetness that coated your fingers within seconds, spreading them in a scissor-like motion to feel the sticky threads dripping down your hand. “All this just from trying to make me feel good?”
A shudder ran through her body as you slipped your way inside, but nonetheless, she kept her word, copying you so that her middle finger pushed snug inside your walls in one fell swoop.
Between the stretch of her added finger and the tight press of her cunt around yours, you let out a sigh that was sweeter to Furina than all the confectionery in Hotel DeBord combined. Encouraged, she sank all the way into you, and at last, you felt that relieving brush of her fingertips against your sweet spot, barely there, but enough to set your nerves ablaze.
“That’s it,” you breathed. “You’re a natural. Just as good at giving as you are at taking me.”
Furina didn’t have much time to bask in your praise before you began to pump your fingers into her, walls clinging to you as if they’d been neglected for years rather than minutes; every bit as melodramatic as she. Her hips rolled down to meet you each time you pulled back for so much as a second, and from the desperation streaked all over her face, you could tell she was praying she’d be able to bring you to your high before she fell apart herself.
“How am I doing now? A—ah—am I good?”
Her eyes had fluttered open again, fighting her own embarrassment so she could observe every microtwitch in your expression, like if she put enough effort in, she’d be able to get past your skull and see what was inside your head. If only she knew that she’d find nothing but posters of her plastered on the walls. “Tell me h-how to be better—the best. Tell me how you like it, mmph, please.”
“I like it as long as it’s you, Furina.”
That seemed to rile her up more than your fingers filling her to the brim, and for good measure, you flattened your palm so that it pressed against her clit each time you dove as deep inside her as possible. Furina cried out, cute and boyish, head falling forward so that those perfect curls of hers slipped down her shoulders, bouncing with every jerk of her body. To your surprise, she still managed to keep up with you, imitating your movements to a tee so that the cushion of her palm was rubbing against your bud as well, adding addictive bursts of stimulation to every thrust of her fingers.
“Oh, baby,” you murmured as she buried her face in your chest, moans dripping down your skin sweet as honey. “You really needed this, huh? Been dying to show me how good you can be?”
Her movements were rocky, but impressively fervent. Even as her wrist began to ache from inexperience, she tried her hardest to copy the dizzying curl of your fingers inside her until, at last, she pressed the pads of her fingers fully into that sensitive spot in the roof of your walls. Your breath hitched sharply, the first real reaction she’d gotten out of you, and you could feel how intensely it affected her by the wild flutter of her insides around your fingers.
“Yes,” she gasped out. “Please. Please, I want to hear you. M-more.”
“Furina,” you sang, and the vibrations of your voice rippled through her senses like a thunderclap. “You’re making me feel so good, Furina. Gonna make me cum with these pretty fingers?”
She nodded into your chest, that adorable curl atop her head swaying as she repeated the drag of her fingers over and over in the hopes of drawing out even more of your approval.
“You’re so cute like this,” you crooned. “My good girl. My knight in shining armor.”
Your knight in shining armor was currently squirming like a fish out of water on your fingers, but she accepted the title anyway, selfishly, proudly. Furina choked out a high-pitched moan, unable to contain just how intensely your words were affecting her, walls clamping down on you as though to trap you inside, just mere seconds away from being sent over the edge.
Still, she conjured every last shred of discipline in her body, discipline that used to mean life or death for her, now melted away so easily at your touch. She ground her palm against your clit while her fingers dragged in a dizzying circle over that bundle of nerves inside of you, hellbent on bringing you to your climax first.
You let your moan out without holding back this time, better than any praise Furina could ever dream of. Her chest swelled with pride, while her stomach swelled with something hot and overwhelming, making her bony fingers seize up in a panic inside you.
“No, n-no, wait,” she mewled. “No fair. I’m a-almost…you first. Want you to finish first, my love.”
“Then make me, baby,” you encouraged her, not bothering to slow the curl and spread of your own fingers. “I’m so close because of you. I know you can do it.”
Her cheeks, now dusted a prettier pink than any shade a makeup artist could choose for her, puffed out in concentration. You felt her clit grinding against your hand, so hard in comparison to the plush pillow of her palm rubbing urgently against yours, not a single callous tainting her smooth skin despite what all that flaunting around of her sword would have you thinking.
You rolled your hips in an attempt to match her rhythm, but it was difficult to keep up when her movements had become endearingly clumsy, not a glimpse of the poise that she valued so highly to be found when the only thing on her mind was making you see stars.
Helpless, broken whines rose in her throat as though somehow, if she begged enough, you’d take pity on her and just let her get you off, already. And—to her credit—it worked like a charm, each desperate sound tugging at your heartstrings and winding up your core like a clockwork meka until all that pressure snapped around her fingers at last.
Furina nearly choked on air as your walls tightened around her, hot velvet that clung to her skin more exquisitely than the finest quality gloves. When you called out her name, shaky and relieved, head falling back against the pillows in bliss, that was all it took for her to collapse along with you. Her face nuzzled into your chest as her own high crashed over her, leaving her entire body trembling on top of you, right down to where her fingertips were still nestled in your heat.
While she writhed on one of your hands, you brought the other to her head, petting those curls that were as soft as powdered sugar beneath the brush of your fingers. Muffled, breathless little noises filled your ears as she rode out the aftershocks of pleasure; the end credits to your favorite film.
When Furina lifted her head from the softness of your chest, she looked somewhere between wrecked within an inch of her life and utterly, indisputably victorious.
“I did it,” she panted, lip curling with a cockiness that you wished you could bottle up in infinite supply for her. “H-hey, hey. I did a good job, didn’t I, my love? You’ve definitely never reacted like that before!”
You hummed playfully, untangling your fingers from her hair to give her rosy cheek a pinch, just short of making her yelp. “Starting to think this was more about your enjoyment than mine,” you complained, turning your cheek in faux offense. “I really have spoiled you rotten.”
Furina’s expression dropped right into a scowl that did absolutely nothing to help her case. “D-don’t be ridiculous! Everything I do is for your sake. I’m your knight, remember?”
“The most noble I could ever dream of.” With a fond grin, you indulged her—you always did. Reaching down between your legs, you tugged at her wrist, so fragile, you were surprised it hadn’t snapped with how fiercely she’d been pumping in and out of you just moments prior. “Now, here’s the reward your princess promised you.”
Even now, she had to hold her breath to keep in an embarrassing sound as you pulled her fingers out from the cozy suction inside of you and brought her hand, slick with your release, up to her lips. She swallowed, not daring to act with what was on her mind until she was absolutely sure it was what you wanted.
“Go on, baby. Taste what you did to me.”
You pressed her fingertips to her mouth, and it parted instantly, tongue unrolling like a pink carpet to make a space for them. Her tastebuds flooded with your essence, the fruits of her labor, and when you gently began to drag her own fingers in and out of her mouth, it watered so quickly that she feared she may make an even greater fool of herself by drooling.
Even after she’d licked up every drop, the pretty, swollen ring of her lips stayed suckling, a faint grumble of protest being pulled from her mouth along with her fingers in an obscene, wet pop.
“Is it that good?” you breathed out a giggle.
Furina ducked her head, and though she said nothing, the flush that had been fading from her face now crept right back up her neck, porcelain dyed pink. Her eyes flickered towards her copy of The Queen’s Crown, forgotten on her mattress, then back to you. Shy in a way you only ever bore witness to when she was truly herself.
“I’ve…always been a more gifted orator than a warrior,” she began quietly, as though confessing some deep, groundbreaking secret, trying so hard to assert herself when she couldn’t even find the courage to meet the adoration in your stare.
“Oh? Could’ve fooled me.”
She let out a huff, ruffling the hair in her face like the pelt of a perturbed kitten. “Next time, I’ll show you where my real talents lie."
