I totally get not wanting to post much covid related content but the second quarantine post really made my otherwise incredibly boring day 😂. Do you have any other headcanons related to that?
(You know, I said that in the tags, and now I can’t stop thinking about it so I probably will keep doing it)
Before all of this started, Percy and Annabeth had been trying to conceive their first baby. They put things on pause in February when things started to ramp up, but at this point, they still want to have kids soon.
And then Chris and Clarisse show up three hours later than they were suppose to, the kids are all hyper from being in the car, and Clarisse looks like she’s met death.
Percy, Annabeth, and Chiron come down from the Big House to help them inside and Chris explains, “Well, we had to stop twice for Clarisse to throw up, then twice so the kids could pee. Then, at that point, we were all hungry so we had to stop to eat. Which turned into stopping for Clarisse to puke again, when her chicken sandwich had pickles on it, which make her puke. So she’s also no longer eating chicken. And then, of course, fifteen minutes later, we had to stop for the kids to pee again.”
Percy and Annabeth know that she’s having a baby, because she works with Percy, but Chiron doesn’t know. So he just looks kind of horrified and asks if she’s feeling all right. She pulls back the fabric of her sweatshirt so that it’s taut against her baby bump, and then he understands.
“How far along?” He asks.
“Oh, about three hundred weeks, I think,”
“Emotionally, at least,” Chris adds, “but twenty-two technically,”
“This one’s been particularly bad with nausea and food aversions. I’ll give you the whole list of things I can’t eat,” She said.
“Might be easier to give him the list of what you can eat,” Chris says, pulling suitcases from the car.
“Mostly dry cherie-os,” She said, taking her suitcase. Her son took her other hand.
“We’re more worried about scurvy than anything else right now,” Chris only half-jokes.
“Well, I’m gonna go lie down,” she says, heading towards the Big House, her son following close by.
Once they all start heading that way, Annabeth pulls Percy back for a moment, grips his arm hard, and whispers, “If you put one of those things inside me, I will divorce you,”
Chris and Clarisse do have some problems with Hunter while they’re there. He’s a very anxious kid, even though he’s only three. So, with his routines all messed up and all the panic he just keeps getting more and more nervous. He keeps asking them what they’re going to do if one of them gets sick. They keep trying to assure him that everything will be okay, but it’s hard when they don’t really have the answers. He ends up just following Clarisse around for most of the first week. He had done this a lot as a baby, but he had started to grow out of it when he was about two and half. At first, Clarisse doesn’t mind (she’ll take all the cuddles she can get), but she soon starts to worry about him. He also asks if she has to have the baby, clearly worried that something is going to go wrong or worried that they’re going to love the baby more than him. Finally, Chris and Clarisse sit down with him and explain to him that he doesn’t need to be worried, that it’s their job to worry about him and his sister, and that they’re at camp to be safe. Things start to slowly get better after that.
With Drew there, Katherine spends most of her days dancing. She had only just started dance classes in January. Drew and Pollux are happy to help her learn (ballet and kindergarten work) and watch the kids while Chris and Clarisse work. Since they’re both performers, they don’t really have anything else to do.
Frozen 2 becomes a staple. Katherine had never really liked princess movies before (she is much more of a How to Train Your Dragon fan), but Frozen 2 is more action and adventure, and she just loves it. Hunter also really likes it, because he really likes the little salamander and the wind spirit. He and Katherine start playing Frozen 2, where Katherine is Elsa and Anna and Hunter is all of the spirits.
Katherine is working her way through The Hobbit, reading a few pages out loud to the baby every night. This becomes a group event after a few nights, with all the adults gathering around to listen to her read the pages. Clarisse loves it because it really encourages her to read more and get better at it.
Later, when they can finally leave quarantine:
“I’m very happy that you’re all still healthy. I’ve asked your siblings to set up bunks for you now that you’ll be leaving the Big House,” Chiron said.
The adults exchanged concerned glances. “Our siblings?” Clarisse asked at the same time that Percy asked “In our cabins?”
“Yes, of course. I don’t want anyone behaving inappropriately,” Chiron said.
“Yeah,” Chris rested a hand on Clarisse’s bely, “don’t want anyone getting knocked up,”
“This is a joke, right?” Annabeth asked.
Chiron smiled, “Of course it is. What? Am I going to make a pregnant woman live in the Ares cabin? I’m not a monster,”
Clarisse crossed her arms. “I could still kick anyones ass in that cabin,”
“If you don’t puke on them first,” Percy said. Clarisse shoved him.
Chiron started to explain that they would all be moving to the third floor, now that more rooms were open. He wanted to make sure there was enough space between them and any other demigods that might arrive. In the middle of this, Katherine ran in play screaming, running away from her brother.
Chris jumped up off the couch, scooped her up, and flipped her upside down. “Whoa there crazy lady, what’s going on?” Katherine laughed at being held upside down.
Hunter climbed up on the couch, giving up on the game, and snuggling into Clarisse.
“We’re playing Frozen 2! I’m Princess Anna and he’s the stone giants and we need to destroy the dam!” Chris flipped her the right way and put her down.
“Ah,” Percy said, “that dam game,”
“Let’s be quiet for a few minutes, Chiron is telling us something important,” Chris said, sitting down on the couch and putting her in his lap. She started fidgeting soon after, so Chris put his pinky on her forehead, drawing a line down to the tip of her nose, following what he had learned from the movie. He did this for about a minute, before she was completely asleep on top of him.
