"Put the blade down!"
His tongue darts out to wipe the droplet of blood from his bottom lip, the sting of the vampire’s backhand is still rattling through his jaw.
But not for long.
Not before he could drive the first blade through the attacking vermin’s stomach, like a hot knife through sinewy butter, again and again the blade sunk through ragged and ripped skin and muscle, squelching obscenely.
Drenching the hunter in crimson, wreathing him in glory as the vampire who’d tried to get the jump on Benny gargled bloody foam, it’s eyes wide with confusion and fear and Dean’s lips twisted into a sick smile. After a few twitches it lay still, and the words just reach Dean in his euphoric moment of bliss.
The kill is still sweet.
But soon it fades, not enoughto sustain, victory tuns to ash and now all Dean see’s is a mangled corpse and a bloody, sharped jaw bone in his right hand. Still, despite his growing horror he can’t drop the blade for a few minutes, and then it tumbles to the floor with a clatter.
