His attention had been on a specific demon from the moment that its presence entered the domain of his senses. Alert as he had to be on these late days, Crowley spotted the slouching creature and prepared to force himself into a confident stance that wasn’t natural to him yet, but that was the best he could get for the sake of his newly gained freedom. That thing he was starting to enjoy despite the initial paranoia, and which became easier to accept with every new meeting to dine or just hang out with the angel living at a certain bookshop.
He had gained that, he liked to think. Just as he had gained a little fun from the scared demon that would sweat cold if he recognized him at that distance.
And yet, what caught his eye in that specific situation wasn’t at all the reaction he got from his demonic counterpart, but the actions of a woman who suddenly decided to leave the main road and hide in the closest alleyway she could find. Her motions urgent enough to awake a sense of curiosity and concern in the demon that found it impossible to shake it off of his mind. Was she in danger? Was everything alright? He had nothing or no one that could stop him now, and so, without much doubt, Crowley walked towards her and hope it wasn’t too late to lend a hand.
“Not a broken heel I hope? I really don’t like it when—” Ah, but there was when it happened. His name came out of her and he quickly lost the ability to end his initial idea. Shocked as he can’t come to understand why someone like her ( who he believes he hadn’t seen ever before ) might know a piece of information like that. “Do I… know you?” He inquiries, and as hard as it is, he tries to find the few and very rare possibilities that could explain something like that. Naive as anyone who really doesn’t want to see the truth and who clings to the safety of ignorance to save him from what lies underneath. It works. And for a moment, Crowley assumes that she is simply is someone he crossed at a store or maybe a new neighbor that had seen him once or twice.
But he notices something around her, and his entire disposition changes with that.
“No.” He mutters while stepping back and stares at her with increasing fear. Shocked, yes, but terrified as one should rightly be when in the presence of the One responsible for everything in existence. That very same being he hadn’t felt since the Fall, and which abandonment is something he had been willing to ignore until some time ago. But not now, it’s hard to forget now, after everything that happened. And as he stands there, wondering how this could be happening and what could be the reason why She is kneeling on the ground looking more human than he ever did, a bit of pain begins to enter the corners of his trembling vision.
“What are you doing here…?”
