I don’t THINK it’s going to be an issue with my particular lab because we don’t do much biohazard stuff, but lab safety wise I, uh, do have an opening in my abdomen leading directly to my digestive system, and I absolutely do not know if that’s something that extra precautions should theoretically be taken for? Mostly it’s that... if something spills on my shirt it could, theoretically, have the very distant chance of coming into contact with my stoma and Google is not remotely helpful.

prof #2, PhD in engineering: Oh I have no idea what it means either, anyone who can explain assays to us gets extra credit
If there's one thing I've learned in science that is my hands down most marketable skill -- it's how to pipette. Fast and accurate and able to keep track of where you are in the process. I have experience with PCRs but usually when I mention that people pick up on "that means you can pipette well."
I don't know if any Baby Scientists are following me but if you ever listen to any advice I give -- get really good at using a pipette. It seems simple and in a way it is, but it's also just an essential skill for laboratory work.
Also making patterns with pipette tip boxes is fun.
