I Love “_”...BUT*
*Because there’s always a BUT.
Closely related to “Am I the only one???” and occasionally used in the same sentence. May also invoke the “I Want” Modifier.
I love [insert Character Of Color]... BUT I don’t see them with my White Fave.
I want to love [insert media with majority POC characters]... BUT it’s too preachy and didactic for me to truly enjoy.
I love [insert Character Of Color]... BUT I’d prefer them to die instead of my white fave.
I love [insert Character of Color]... BUT story lines or episodes focusing on them don’t interest me.
I want to love [insert Character Of Color]... BUT that one thing they did suddenly made me hate and find them completely unsympathetic, even though I normally don’t react as harshly when white characters do the exact same thing.
I love [Insert Female Character Of Color]... BUT I literally don’t ship her with anyone. She doesn’t need to be in a relationship; she’s too strong and romance will cheapen her.

The Good News: Richonne is canon!
Unfortunately, the review on the AV Club has only been up for two hours, and though there are a ton of super pumped and vindicated people in the comment thread, there are also plenty of “I don’t see any chemistry/relationship didn’t develop organically/Michonne is a Strong Woman and doesn’t need to be in a relationship/they seem more like brother and sister/I wanted Rick and Michonne to have a strong platonic and domestic relationship without the romance” comments.
Does anybody have a scorecard for “Predictable Reactions To Black Female Character Hooking Up With White Male Lead” bingo? Because I think I found them all.
