It was late in the evening.
Initially Kying was meant to take over the night watch that evening. But on a short notices the captain of the Lionsguard decided, he should save his energy instead, to escort a group of merchants on the next morning.
With that his plans for the night where changed and led him into his apartment. The Lionguard paid well - well enough that he could afford his own four walls. But he didn’t stay there long.
Instead, he was drawn to a shop well hidden in the back alleys of the Commodore's Quarter.
For that well hidden business, he carried a key, that Valefor had given him a while ago. This allowed him to visit the store at any time, without waiting for an invitation.
It was a clear sign, that Kying was now welcome in the other's life.
That change was still unaccustomed for the warrior, but at the same time he enjoyed everything about it. Although some things hadn't changed.
Valefor still had his moods, but they were much more bearable than they used to be. He seemed to try, not to take those whims out on Kying. In addition, Valefor was still a mystery to him. He never knew what is going on in his head.
Kying now working for the Lionsguard wasn't a coincidence either - it was his own idea. With the little help of Juur, he was able to join the guards.
Just like back then in the Black Citadel, Kying again works for Valefor. He provides him with information or makes sure the Lionsguard don’t find out about their business.
Only this time, he wasn't just doing it for his own amusement. This time he wanted to support Valefor and to make things work between them.
After all, one reason Valefor turned his back on him, was because of his boss. But as long as Kying is useful for their cause, that guy had no reason to harm Kying and thus get Valefor in trouble.
And even though it made him an accomplice, something he would have scolded himself for years ago, he finally felt like he had arrived. This was his place. That’s where he belongs.
With a satisfied smile Kying opened the door to the strange shop. There he was immediately greeted by the owner. "He is not there".
Kying looked at him questioningly. "Is he on duty?"
Juur didn’t looked up at him. From the looks of it, he seemed to be working on something.
At least it was more important, than to taking his eyes off it.
"Not that I know. Shouldn't you be on night watch?". With that, Juur indirectly explained why Valefor wasn't there.
Kying shook his head. “They changed it.”.
“Can't tell you, if he'll be back any time soon. But you know where his room is.”
Juur huffed and went back to his work.
Kying, meanwhile, took note of the statement in silence and went to Valefor's room.
Only to be stopped again by Juur's words.
“You know…”, he started. “He is rarely here after work.” An unusual smile was on his lips.
"But since you've been here, he's been around more often."
Kying just blinked at the asura, before acknowledging the statement with a small smile.
Arriving in Valefor's room, he glanced around. Papers were scattered across the desk. Apparently orders and information for Valefors boss. Although Kying’s fingers itched to take a little peek inside, he remembered Valefor's words - "The less you know, the better"
So he left the room behind and went straight into the bedroom beyond of it. There he made himself comfortable on the bed.
Then he waited... until he eventually fell asleep.
It was in the middle of the night, when Valefor returned.
But instead of going through the main door, he used a secret passage, that led him directly into his room. That was actually his main way to get there. He never uses the usual entrance.
Despite the darkness, the charr had no problems finding his way around the room. Accordingly, his first step brought him to his desk, where he took out a cigarette and lit it.
Lost in thoughts, he retreated to the back of his room.
To his surprise he wasn't alone,... someone was lying in his bed. It was Kying.
He was sleeping soundly.
Though nothing unusual, it made Valefor think. He still hadn't got used to having someone around. It was no longer a deal that kept them together, but a genuine interest.
He still didn't know how to think about it. Was it good? Or was it a bad idea?
At least one thing he could say for sure... he felt comfortable with the other. Something he couldn't claim for a long time.
With a soft sigh, Valefor sat down at the edge of the bed and gave Kying a scrutinizing look. Without realizing it, a small smile laid at Valefor's lips, as he took the last drag on his cigarette and stubbed it out in a nearby ashtray.
Then he laid down behind Kying as carefully as possible. After all, he didn't want to wake him,... without success.
"You're late,", the warrior grumbled.
"And I thought you were on duty,", Valefor huffed.
"They,... changed it,...", it yawned into the silence. Meanwhile, Kying pushed closer to Valefor. Before he grabbed his hand and claimed it with his own.
Valefor responded with a sigh
"Since you decided we're partners,, you've gotten pretty pushy."
Kying immediately let out a little laugh. "You're not stopping me."
Silence. Then it got interrupted by a snort.
"Cus you get all dramatic and want me to kill you.”
Valefor wasn’t able to see the smirk that laid on Kying's lips, as he spoke.
"Well... then you have to live with that.”
Another sigh left Valefor, as he shook his head.
"Looks like it,...," he agreed, burring his nose into the soft fur of Kyings neck.
As much as he wanted to enjoy their time together,... he couldn't shake the feeling, that everything would take a sour turn.
A faint crowing in the distance, only strengthened this feeling...
Kying felt relieved to leave the Black Citadel and thus his old life behind him.
They won’t miss him anyway and it never felt like home ther
Don't know why, but I had a lot of trouble writing that part. My brain is melting from translating.
But at least it gives a little insight where these two are currently.
In the next chapter, we might meet someone very special.
I heard he likes crows.
