He looks at the chair that used to be Shirley’s and wonders if she already knew. Nobody had seemed that surprised by either Abed or Annie’s news, so there’s something telling him that it had all been kept quiet to avoid any of this happening. Then there’s Troy’s old chair, and Pierce’s old chair and all of these chairs which he wishes didn’t mean so much more than just pieces of fabric covered foam and curved metal.

And then he looks over at hers and it hits him how he’d always been one chair over. There’d always been a distance between them but now it’s going to be a distance of over a thousand miles and a distance that separates her dreams from being achieved, and just being dreams that never end up getting realised.

Basically an additional chapter for something I wrote for #jxaappreciationweek2016! The finale from Jeff’s POV (Annie’s Chapter 1). Enjoy!

Jeff x Annie Appreciation Week 2016: Day 7 (free choice)

Seeing as you started #jxaappreciationweek2016 (along with @pepperf) - how did Jeff & Annie celebrate their one year anniversary?

???

I think it’s a pretty fair bet they had sex, probably? :) Other than that, I don’t know! This is why I’m a beta reader and not a writer. When I try to think up stories, I draw a total blank. Sometimes headcanons and ideas sneak up on me as long as I don’t look directly at them, but that’s the best I can do.

Generally, I like the idea that by the one-year point they’ve acknowledged out loud that things are serious, that they’re it for each other. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that they’ve moved in with each other by now. They might have a cat, or a dog. (I like @hello-wright-or-wrong‘s headcanon that they both love dogs, and I also like @catty-words‘s idea that they go to the shelter to look at dogs and get adopted by a cat while they’re there.) Jeff has definitely been in therapy and they might not both have their dream jobs yet but they’re working on it and they see their Greendale family often and they’re happy.

(Imagine me sticking my tongue out at DHarms.)

It was so great seeing all the art and fic and edits, and seeing all the likes and reblogs! I was a little bit out of the loop at the end there, thanks to finishing up our visit to family in Omaha and flying to DC to move into our new house (I’m typing this as I sit in a houseful of half-assembled furniture and boxes that need to be unpacked), but it was still a really fun week. :)
