I probably wouldn't have heard of Taylor Deupree if it weren't for his collaborative album with Ryuichi Sakamoto. Titled Disappearance, it continues Sakamoto's willingness to challenge himself and working with musicians that at first do not feel like they belong in his wheelhouse. Then again, neither did Alva Noto nor Christian Fennesz, but one must only listen to a few of their cooperations with him to see how much they complement him. Taylor Deupree is like that as well – he is an ambiental composer whose ambient is pretty close to the places he works in. His tunes have, besides the usual signifiers of the genre, also noises that are made by moving chairs, scratching strings, turning pages and similar. His definition of the kind accompanies Sakamoto's melodies and despite the supposed disturbance it makes them even more serene.
