So today Boyfran and I were staining our jos, which are short-staffs used for the martial art of jyodo. He stained his a mahogany color and I stained my ebony. We'll see how this actually turns out. And even if mine doesn't actually end up a deep dark color, I at least stained my nails ebony... though that was unintentional.
While I am aware that most martial artists don't stain their jos, we go to a really casual place for training so the sensei said he didn't mind at all. Our jos are actually modified dowel rods that we've sanded ourselves anyways. I suspect they'll last us a year.
