I’m about to start my lousy, no-good, very bad, 4 hour Sunday night shift, which I always deplore working because it’s like the regurgitated dregs of several beer steins being force fed to someone with a stomach ache. Made all the worse this evening because I had to forgo seeing The Electrical Life of Louis Wain this afternoon. *pouts like a spoiled child* At least I would’ve been floating on a ‘new and beautiful Benedict content high’ if I’d have seen it, and the night wouldn’t have been so dreary.
Ok, so I know it’s necessary--to keep from spoiling Avengers: Endgame for anyone out there who doesn’t grasp that the Dusted are coming back by the end of that movie (are there really people who don’t understand that’s pretty typical in comic canon, etc???)--but me no likey that Benedict’s name doesn’t even appear on the poster. I am, after all, a Doctor Strange fan above being a Avengers/Marvel fan. Like, it’s in my blood.
I’m pretty sure my apathy toward seeing Captain Marvel stems in a good part in the facts that I’m irritated that we won’t get very much of Strange at all in Endgame...and that Marvel continues to drag it’s feet in giving a firm date/commitment to making DS II.
What can I say; I’ve always been a one-trick pony.
--where it’s usually management that brings the conflict, not the customers.
The day started with a taciturn, cranky store manager being even more of both whilst laying down ridiculous edicts left & right, to assuage the irritation of having a visit from District Manager without due warning. Knowing he was in for a dressing down, he decided to spread the joy early on, to the point where he told a couple of my co-workers that since they are friends outside of work, they aren’t allowed to talk to one another on the clock or be at the service desk (where each has worked for years) at the same time. Dick move; we’ve the best service desk team in the area, in part because we adore one another & have one another’s backs. And don’t take my word for it--that’s from customers who repeatedly tell us they go out of their way to do their business with us, rather than at stores in their hometowns!
Anyway, when the DS inspected the service desk, we got to listen to his very justified catalogue of complaints to the high muckety mucks--knowing full well that we ladies in the trenches have not only complained about the same, but often offered solutions which get completely ignored. And knowing as well that the problems will persist long after he’s moved onto another store. We’ll get a cosmetic fix; a bandaid that will not stick for long, before things return to situation normal (FUBU).
And though we are the mere worker bees, we know damn well the real cause of the problem--Walmart is so ass-deep in trying to fight against the growing tide of internet dominance in nearly all things retail, they’ve gutted hours company wide to the point we just don’t have the staff available to keep up with every little detail that needs addressing on a daily basis.
Ah well...what is one to do in the face of stubborn, corporate stupidity that fails to recognize it’s created a good portion of the problems dragging it down?
One thing is for certain: shit definitely follows the law of gravity, because as coated as our salaried managers are in it today, it flowed down well & good to leave it’s horrid stink on the rest of us.
...try as I might, with Christmas season in full bloom, to pimp my Sherlock Christmas story, I can’t get a single new reader. And it’s good, it’s a sweet Christmas story, I’m proud of it, and my rl readers (who come to it unencumbered by their own ‘ship preferences’) love it for the story & how I tell it.
Most fanfic authors will tell you that when they go back & revisit earlier work, they are often appalled or disappointed by those pieces--especially as compared to where they are today. And I know I’ve grown & improved as an author since penning it--but in all honesty, this story stands that test of time and temperment, and I will never disavow it. Still, I’m not letting the completely being ignored get me down, like such things used to. I’m disappointed, of course, but not surprised--and now I’ve got it off my chest & I’ll simply move along.
It’s been an incredibly shitty couple of weeks at work, getting more absurd each day. Management regularly demonstrates a stunning lack of common sense. I mean, each step they take up the leadership ladder, they seem to lose a mass of brain cells.
I am intellectually exhausted from dealing with the greedy, managerial mindset & greedy, foolish, impolite customers. And so I need beautiful things & funny things on my blog tonight. Maybe some profound quotes as well.
Am currently lodged somewhere between malaise and despondency. More towards malaise, I suppose..
There’s a story I want need to write--putting several others on the back burner--but conditions are such that I can’t publish...yet anyway (ever? remains to be seen). I’m excited to write it--mostly, until I read other, far better works--but I crave input and my bestie is not interested in the topic whatsoever. A couple of friends at work are glad to look at it, but not very timely & I’m such an impatient little brat. Meh. Bleh. I can’t test drive it here, either. It’s left me restless & dissatisfied.
Ugh. Hate feeling this way. I wanna get lost in that world for a time, but I need a barometer of sorts to tell me if I’ve got it right.
I know, I know--I’m an annoying neebish (as in being a nuisance & generally an asshole) & I should just satisfy myself with rebloging lovely photos of My Beautiful Obsession.
Either that, or pick up something at the liquor store. I would, but it would impair my ability to do much needed laundry. I ran out of clean bras yesterday. I really am a freakin’ mess some days.
