One of my favorite dishes to make, and eat of course, is Chicken Marsala. The earthy warm hue of the fortified wine used in the dish has been selected as Pantone’s Color of 2015. Marsala’s rich reddish brown hue is perfectly captured in a wide range of gems, from garnets and tourmalines to spinels and rubies.

Set in yellow gold, the radiant metal proves the best foil for these marsala-hued gems, helping them to shine a vibrant amalgam of brown and red. Growing up an FSU Seminole football fan thanks to my dad, the university’s “Garnet & Gold” colors have always appealed to me – and marsala is not too far off from garnet. Thus, one of my favorite color combinations happens to be this deep brownish red color with yellow gold, and jewelry executes this pairing to perfection.

K. Brunini's Design Inspiration

Those familiar with K. Brunini Jewels are continually astounded by the uniqueness of her vast collection. From her Spirit Animals to her Vertebrae collection to her Body Armor and everything in between, one walks away from viewing Katey's designs asking oneself, "How does she come up with all of that gorgeousness?!" Katey's designs have been described as "spiritual and soulful, paying homage to Nature's spontaneous wit and organic aesthetic," and while all of this is true, there is an ineffable quality to her work as well, a certain je ne se quoi if you will!

This week, we are pleased to gain a little bit of insight into one of Katey's design inspirations...Katey is obsessed with Paris-born, Lisbon-based artist Joana Vasconcelos, who is currently taking over the Palace of Versailles in France with her large sculptural works as part of the château's annual contemporary art exhibition. About the artist, Katey enthuses, "She interprets Versailles mythology and the presence of the important female figures that have lived there. I can hear the footsteps now with these stunning shoes made from stainless steal pans. Her use of material is stunning and intricate, and her interpretations of old and new inspire. I want to fly in this helicopter made of ostrich feathers and gold leafing.”
