thinking about transfemme umas and my thought process is going more or less like this:

• maybe the umamusume gene doesn’t fully kick in until an estrogen-based puberty, which lines up with etsuko’s backstory of her uma childhood friend suddenly getting faster than all the others in their running club

• but wait, where does that leave the “transfemmes in gendered sports” debate in the uma world? would transitioning umafemmes be barred from male sports because umamusume are unequivocally stronger and faster than humans? what about umamascs? does the umamusume gene get cancelled out by the presence of testosterone?

• well, maybe since umamusume are a woman-only subspecies of human, gendered sports don’t exist in umaworld and it’s split up based on skill/weight class/etc. maybe gender discrimination doesn’t exist at all actually

• but that can’t be right, cygames will never dive into this but city’s whole “nobody takes me seriously as an athlete because i’m just a pretty face to them” thing is absolutely tied to misogyny — also, there has to be SOME sort of gender discrimination, why else would the triple tiara route (noted for its proximity to femininity) net less fans than the triple crown route (and the jbc ladies’ classic nets less fans than both the sprint and the classic. Also, why is the name gendered when all umas are women)

• wait im getting away from my main point which is how transfemme umamusume would work. i still maintain that its tied to estrogen because that makes the most sense to me but perhaps im missing some crucial lore

and all of this is going on while the devil on my shoulder loudly goes “hey if horses don’t exist in umaworld how did they first synthesize estrogen”
