Japanese couldnt be bothered with correct romanization. And the Westerners couldnt be bothered with correct Christianity. His name is good in scenes with Cyrillic spelling tho, but otherwise it wrong (with C). There’s no official confirmation he changed it to pander to the Westerners, but many Western fans tend to think he did tho. Šlag na tortu, there are some who think he changed it in-universe and that it’s ~*OFFENSIVE*~ to the character to romanize it with a K….

ayyy I’ve seen that discourse about it being “offensive” actually omg :’D they acted like people were dead-naming him over the changed spelling wtf 

I mean, if we leave out that it could have only been bad romanization, the only in-universe explanation would be if he changed it to a C so that he would be more accepted in the west because of his career (which eastern europeans actually tend to do sometimes because people in the west can’t be bothered to learn to say or spell our names lmao)
