kacykittychan asked you: I positively love your karkat the cosplay is flawless in my eyes. I'm gonna be cosplaying karkat myself soon and I was wondering if you have any tips on cosplaying him or getting into character?
Thank you so much!
Well, I literally just answered a very similar question yesterday! You can find my answer here; I talk about being Karkat on a panel.
As for the appearance of the cosplay, here's my recommendations (which are more based on what I WISH I looked like than what I actually look like):
Smaller horns are better. Everyone makes jokes about Karkat's nubby horns. I know it's exciting that you made them and you kind of want to show them off, but think 'disappearing into hair' small, haha.
Get a very voluminous wig! Karkat has a SHITTON OF HAIR. You'll need it to be shorter and spikier on top with a lot of length on the sides. Imagine that Karkat cuts his hair just in places that will make his horns more visible and you'll have the right idea. (I'm STILL looking for the perfect Karkat wig, sigh.)
Get fangs/non-toxic black eyeliner/tooth black and give yourself some pointy teeth. Karkat is the troll equivalent of John and has an overbite, so show off your fangs dude.
When countouring your gray makeup, don't use eyeliner - use black eyeshadow, and go for heavy dark circles under the eyes rather than eyeliner around the eyes. It's going to look more masculine. Additionally, don't make your lips straight black, just darken them with more black eyeshadow; we associate colored lips with female types thanks to how animation is usually done. Make sure to give yourself dark eyebrows too!
Wear a baggy shirt. Get it way too large for your body. It will hide your figure if you've a female body and make you look smaller at the same time (I think Karkat wears clothes that are too big to make himself look big but it has the opposite effect. Oops). I go back and forth between turtleneck and no, but I think it's pretty canon that he *doesn't* wear one. Compare turtleneck/sweater-wearing Kankri to Karkat and you'll see what I mean.
Baggy pants, not skinny jeans. Once again, it will hide your figure if you are biologically female and work with Karkat's baggy shirt.
Paint your fingernails yellow. It's just a nice troll touch!
ONCE AGAIN AN OVERLY LONG ANSWER TO A SIMPLE QUESTION. Sorry, everyone who follows me. And now, to bed.
