Kadeu, Club Territory, Dragonfire Hot Springs
31 December 2020, Evening
Hyeonju picks up his pace as he makes his way through the streets of Club. He tucks his muted grey overcoat more tightly around himself, pushing his gloved hands further into the folds. His black merchant boots leave prints in the snow. He looks up to see the sky is silver bluish grey, making the night look closer to dawn than just after dusk. It would be quite beautiful if Hyeonju didn’t hate winter so much. He sighed to himself, puffs of air forming clouds in front of his face before dissipating. At least he’d be warm once he made it to the hot springs.
It had been a rough year to put it lightly and the Ten of Heart was in desperate need of respite. He wanted this shitty year to end on a positive note, that’s all he asked. Which is why he found himself attending an event that was mostly being attended by lowrankers and Clubs—as one does when they’re a high ranker Heart. Hyeonju laughed softly to himself, but once he pushed through the Dragonfire’s doors and was met by warm, humid air and the soft murmur and laughter of a happy and content crowd, Hyeonju found himself a bit more at ease. He paid his fee and received a small lantern in return.
He took his time getting to the water’s edge, taking in the modest attire of the people around him and the casual atmosphere. It was relaxing in a way that Heart would never be. Right now, all the businesses in his district were filled with rowdy patrons and music and gossip, and for once the Heart found himself wanting peace.
Finally reaching the hot springs themselves, Hyeonju bent down gracefully. The water was already decorated with other guests’ beautiful lanterns and it left Hyeonju mesmerized. After a moment of awe, Hyeonju shucked his boots off, settling them beside him, rolled up his pants, and dipped his feet in the water. Some groups had thought to do the same. It was nice. Hyeonju lit the lantern with the match given to him, stared into the soft flame before gently setting it on the water and watching it drift to join the others. There was no prayer, only all his negative feelings poured into the little boat in the hopes it would take it all away.
Hyeonju sighed and tipped his head back. He glanced around after a bit looking for the face that had put this little event together. He spotted the Ace a little distance away and met his eyes. “Kol,” he greeted happily. “It’s been too long. Nice party. Very in line with your tastes…and now it appears mine as well.”
