no thoughts just rewrite au kaeangie

very specific context under the cut:

in a private circle we’ve been throwing ideas around for a v3 rewrite au for a while with protagonist kaede (and shuichi doesn’t die in chapter 1 either and plays a VERY different developmental role, but that aside), and to be as brief as I can about it, basically in chapter 3, angie committed a murder–but because it was the second murder (the first ‘murder’ was a suicide), it didn’t count and she got out of facing consequences. kaede was the one who ultimately resolved the trial and noted the application of the killing game rules that would spare angie from execution. so, angie survives and now considers kaede her guardian angel, and… it’s really something and honestly a hilarious dynamic. of course, angie truthfully feels crippling guilt under the surface and everyone else despises her. kaede is the only person she has, so there’s a lot more to it.

A late day 18 for @femslashfeb: Shield

Kaede/Angie--An RPG-au sort of related to this one, but it’s not necessary to read for this. Just a similar idea.

As soon as Kaede began her incantation, one of the monsters launched itself in a full-bodied tackle towards her. She flinched, voice wavering and nearly cutting out completely, before it slammed into a barrier just before it hit her.

The barrier shimmered in ripples out from the points of impact, then went back to near-transparent.

Relieved, Kaede shot a look of gratitude in Angie’s direction, who waved cheerily from her spot. Although sweat beaded on Angie’s forehead, she still managed a bright expression.

“Don’t worry, I won’t let them get anywhere near you!” she declared, then leaped over the outstretched claws of another monster slinking across the ground. “Whoops! Sorry, you can’t catch me all sneaky like that, I have God looking over me!”

With Angie keeping the shield up in front of Kaede, she had enough confidence to pour her energy into the spell, even with its lengthy incantation that left her defenseless individually.

It was worth it though. As the final words left her mouth, it dealt massive damage in a wide radius around her. The remaining monsters dissipated into shadows, melting into nothing but wisps on the wind as the energy left them. Kaede heaved a sigh, bracing her hands on her knees as she caught her breath. That always took so much out of her--she could never use it multiple times without rest in between.

Angie, however, collapsed on the ground, panting. Kaede straightened up in alarm, quickly making her way to where her partner had fallen.

She raised her head as Kaede approached. For the first time, the smile she gave was strained. “No need to worry! I’m perfectly fine!” she said, although her heavy breaths told a different story. “I just want... a piggy back ride! Yes, yes! I demand it!”

Angie raised her arms up to Kaede, even though they trembled from her exertion. It was no wonder, with the barrier she maintained all while continuing the fight as Kaede prepared her spell. She smiled softly, intensely fond of Angie, especially after all she’d done to help Kaede, and still she brushed it off.

Kaede knelt down, offering her back to Angie for her to climb on.

“Sure, no problem. Get on, it’s a long way back to town.”

Angie’s soft cheer as she wrapped her arms around Kaede’s shoulders made her affection for the other girl grow tenfold.
