Poison Aftermath: Mentions of Zhifeng and Altyn (@arcxnumvitae and @thewolfisawake)

"Her temperature has gone down a couple degrees but still feverish." Rio holds up a washcloth. "I was going to re-wet this for Miss Altyn."

Kaede doesn't look up at the entrance of his brother, back facing him as he runs fingers through silky hair. Motion gentle, other hand resting on the dragon's chest, keeping the time of their heartbeats.

"While taxus brevifolia is effective, and the tea I made is strong, it still takes time. And without knowing how long before Zhifeng called me they even ingested it.....not knowing the speed in which it traveled, on top of not even knowing how supernaturals even react....." Words trail off with a note of frustration, shoulders uncharacteristically tense on the pureblood's usually easygoing frame. Such severity was unnatural on his features. "Too much is unknown, too many factors unidentified for me to have enough answers." His hand stills as if the metaphorical lightbulb had gone off. "Yet, the cure seemed almost....too easy. Does that make sense?"

Rio meets his brother's gaze with puzzlement, not really following this train of thought though he knew he'd get an explanation. It had been this way since they were kids.

"It's as if poisoning them wasn't the goal. The poison wasn't really the point in all this. Is there a message here? Something I'm not seeing?" He starts muttering to himself as he tries to put puzzle pieces together without having them all. Without even having half if he's being honest. "Maybe there was something to steal here? Zhifeng does possess quite a number of material items of value, and I'd assume Altyn has her own treasures tucked away. So maybe material belongings-" "What about you?"

"Hm? No, I don't think I possess nearly the collection of valua-"

"No, no!" Rio cuts Kaede off for the second time, not sure why he thinks he's right, knows he's right, but he was having some sort of...."gut feeling" that made him almost positive. (Not actually positive because you couldn't actually be positive without evidence proving blah blah blah or whatever Kaede went on about) But Rio feels that he's onto something. "What if the goal wasn't them at all? What if it's you? I mean, who else would make an antidote that fast?"

Kaede turns back to Zhifeng, his jewel, laying on the bed. So gorgeous and lovely as any sleeping beauty, stable, yet chest rising a bit too shallow still for the coroner's liking.

"Me? Improbable. I can't imagine what I'd have to offer whoever did this." Though Kaede would find out who was responsible. Find out and make sure they truly understood the full splendor of the seven trillion nerves that made up the body's nervous system.

Rio sighs at being shut down so quickly, but doesn't argue it. No point to it right now with his brother's mind more focused on making sure these two made it through. While Kaede definitely had a bias, he'd been splitting his time moving between the two rooms to make sure vital signs were on the incline. With a freshly wet cloth in hand, Rio makes his way back to his chair by Altyn's bedside, gently brushing damp bangs aside to lay it flat along her forehead. "Miss Altyn, I feel it. I feel that I'm right." He touches her cheek gently before withdrawing.

"Rest up and get better, alright? I still want to take you out dancing. Or bowling maybe. Do you like bowling? I'm surprisingly pretty good at it. Or both. Dancing and bowling. Whatever you like."

Any other reworks or retcons you thought of?

The only other one at this particular moment pertains to the Omori household:

-Sweet Dreams’s involvement in Kaede’s life is making it worse and she hates it. Sweet Dreams doesn’t know this and is going to continue to try and help.

-Nagi has other additional housemates now and they’re weird.

Aido is man of science and logic and was absolutely positive of his views on the existence of the supernatural. But after having Kaede as a business associate for the last handful of years, his resolve on that belief has been shaken a little. He can't say exactly what he thinks is different about the coroner, just that he knows something is different.

Ilya has only met him a few times and thinks Kaede is just about the weirdest person he's ever met. He definitely sees the man's brilliance in his field, but thinks Aido is thinking too seriously about it. Ilya waves it off as the man having more than a few screws loose.

"Which flowers do you think Miss Altyn will like more?" Rio asks as he scrolls through various arrangements on his phone.

Kaede doesn't look over, carefully pinning the wing of a jewel beetle to what would become its new frame. "I don't think it matters, honestly." he murmurs, focused as he sets an insect leg in place.

The younger vampire looks up from where he's lounged in Kaede's couch. "Why? Because I don't know her favorite color? Or flower for that matter...."

Kaede's breath comes out in a sign and he puts down the tweezers in his hand, leaning back in the shair and giving his brother his full attention. "No. It's because I'm pretty sure she doesn't care. This is probably just a game to her."

He doesn't have anything personal against Zhifeng's work associate, but she was the kind of person he couldn't read. Her intentions....hard for him to follow. And she treated Rio like one would a pet golden retriever. "I just don't think this is as serious to her as it is to you is all."

"Oh. Is that all?" Rio waves a hand dramatically and lays back further. "Lucky for me, I share your unwavering determination and stubbornness that we unfortunately inherited from father. I'm patient. I will do everything I can to hopefully get Miss Altyn to take me seriously."

He turns on his side as his brother goes back to his work, facing away from him. Being optimistic was what he was good at.

Sometimes it's all he can do.

(Bd-wireroses - Fimi) there is a 5 year old practically raiding the vending machines. She has amassed a small pile of one of every item in the machine and is trying to figure out how to move her haul somewhere she can try them all.

Kaede has been watching this go down.

How much pocket money is this kid carrying? Also, what is she doing here? She looks too young for elementary school, let alone high school…
