#KagekiShoujo and #KaizokuOujo. Being in a writing slump for about five weeks, not writing about these two brilliant titles truly pained me. So here it goes. Kageki Shoujo. Have to admit, I was late for this one and was already at episode 10 when I started watching. I'm really happy I caught on because it certainly has more to it than meets the eye. While it's about a competition among girls to make it big in a renowned all-female theatre, Kageki Shoujo is one of the bravest titles I've seen in recent memory. It put a spotlight on many relevant issues such as pedophilia, trauma, body dysmorphia, and gender stereotypes. As much as it was about girls chasing after their dreams, it didn't shy away nor sugarcoat any of these issues. I really do believe that they're sending a powerful message, one that needs to be seen and heard by many. Sarasa Watanabe, eccentric as she is, perfectly challenged norms and she wasn't afraid to drag everyone into the light only because she cared for her friends dearly. A second season is well-deserved and I look forward to more of Sarasa and her crazies. 9/10 for me. Kaizoku Oujo. Already reviewed this earlier but, I just need to write something about it again. I'm really a sucker for titles that have great animation and production value, and Crunchyroll hit the mark on this one and with Production I.G.. Every episode literally leaves me in awe because of its beautiful, clean and precise execution. It's action-packed and the fight sequences don't come cheap either. There's also a certain delicate-ness to the art which really reflects Fena's personality and a vulnerable side to the series. But what really sealed the deal for me recently was Makaba's monologue to Shitan. The way he described how their circle grew from just them and Yukimaru and Tsubaki to the addition of Karin, Enju, and Kaede, and finally, Fena. I was in tears. It's only been a couple of episodes but my emotional investment is over the roof. With the latest one showing us Shitan's youth with Makaba and everyone else, and how he really sees Fena, it only adds more depth to an already mysterious plot. So yes, I'm all in. Watch and support Fena and Sarasa please! https://www.instagram.com/p/CUVP5O3PCvL/?utm_medium=tumblr
